At the end of the year i think its best for bot kouta and the club if the champ calls it a day. Time for new leaders to be elected and stand tall. We know that Kouta's output to date this year has been well well below his best and becuase we know what the great man is capable of its hard for many of us to stomach. The reality is he is now over 30 and his body has been bleted pillar to post. When an if Kouta hangs up the boots come years end this will free up massive amounts of dollars in our salary cap or TTP. This is a concern becuse the new pres has made it very clear that the days of recycled player are gone and its time we invested in youth youth and more youth (about time), though i doubt Dennis will be all that pleased. So come draft time do we only take kids from this years very rich draft, signs say yes. My point is that we will have all this space in the salary cap now that Kouta is gone and where do we invest it? The fact is we cant not spend it on the players coz we have to pay the a min of 92% ( i think) of the cap. So does this mean we will reward guys will bigger deals who dont perhaps deserve them.. guys like houla are out of contract at seasons end.. I think our best hope is that we can pick up an experienced player in the PSD (for nothing) who is hopefully around the age of 24-27 someone who can help carry the leadership void left by kouta because lets be honest our leaders are not standing up at the monent.

Against all proof at present I believe Kouta has 2 more good years ahead of him. I don't believe his body is the problem. Also whilst in his pre knee injury days he was far more athletic much of his talent has come from his footy brain.

He has always had rare ability to evade opponents and to find targets that most normal players could not do. This ability is almost physic and is his rare gift. This gift is still with him but his mind is injured. He seems to be very mentally restricted and carrying stress. I believe that his mind is actually inhibiting his physical vitality.

As for salary if this is his last year of contract then the club can offer him a 1 year deal at say 300k of which 150k is cut as he is on the veterans list.

We have to be careful here mate that we don't push Kouta past his expiry date. Whilst he is still a valuable member of the team, i'm just not sure his body will hold up to another season, let alone 2, of AFL football.

Simple solution is front-weighted contracts. Rather than paying Fevola, say, 200k each year for 4 years, pay him 725k in the first year, and 25k per year after that. We get our salary cap bonus now, and a whopping amount of free space in future to re-sign stars and poach players from other clubs. Fevola gets his money now - which with interest will be worth more than it would have been. Everyone wins!

I think Kouta shold go at years end, he plays with lethargy, and hasn't had ANY impact since the first game. It's like he came out with a bang, and is now just killing time. Free up some space in our list and get some experience, as well as the priority picks we'll get since we're gonna spoon out this year.
