Woo hoo,the 500th coach thread

Notice Doug Wade's name pop-up as anti Thompson. Wonder whether there's any Sam Newman influence there as they are mates. Sam isn't exactly Bomber's number 1 fan.

One of the big issues for the board is that there are no outstanding coaching candidates in the wings.

Also, thought the bit about Bomber telling Aka he'd be at the cats next year was interesting. Then again, it was a piece from Caroline Wilson and she can make a lot of a little.

Very funny Jubjub. Not sure why you read em if they bore you!!!!!!!

That is a big issue, but I'm not sure if some of the board understand that. There are some who want change for change's sake.

Caro has been caught out a few times lately. The stuff about speaking to player's managers, for instance where she named Liam Pickering who denied talking to her.

I agree. Thommo will be there. It's a worry when there are so many not in full support . Let's hope that when the decision is made everyone falls into line and gives full support to whoever gets the job. And let's hope Cookie stays a while longer and Gareth never becomes president.

Nor sure how I take Caro's articles lately. But Gareth Andrews would be the wrong choice if he really wants to mount a challenge.

About the most accurate thing I've heard involving Caroline Wilson recently would be what Kernahan said about her I reckon :thumbsu: :p

Seriously though, does she ever quote or name anyone that supports her rumour/opinion... oh yeah sorry, I mean supports what "The Sunday Age has learnt"?? Again the quotes she does use don't mention anything about what she is suggesting.

Despite the heading referring to the rumour, I personally found some of the quoted (factual??) parts and the last half pretty interesting, and even positive, where it says about the lengths Geelong are going to to try and work out any problems, and to do it properly. Especially the final quote from Costa was good to hear...
There are differences, however. Our administration is very strong, as are our finances.

Commentator Garry Lyon said that the Geelong coach had spoken to Jason Akermanis several days ago and told the former Brisbane Lion he would be at the club in 2007.

Did anyone else notice this???
Aside from what we may give up for him, what do people reckon about Aker in the hoops...as unlikely as I think it may be.

Personally, I would like it. He's a star, and if we're seriously shooting for a flag in the next few years, then why not have a dip at him!

Ammo ...6 out of the 8 sides in the 8 this season are/were being coached by first time coaches as they are still in their first tenure... and no side in the last 10 years has missed the finals and won the flag the next season...

Why is it so risky based on those relevant stats?...its just common sense to move on after 7 years with a guy who has taken us as far as he is going to...2008-2009 our window will re open and we will have a new coach with the 'wear with all' by then to cope with that expectation by then....

O.K! I'll give you 2. Roos has been the outstanding success. Worsfold too, but with that list I reckon you and I could do o.k too;)

Of the others: Craig has coached successfully at State footy level. Thomas -well say no more. Connolly - how long has he been there; how many times has he just missed the axe and how much of this years success is due to the new support staff. And Daniher has taken time to mature and is still yet to win the big one after how many years.

BTW. I'm not a big fan of Bombers coaching . All I've been saying is that we don't have the time for the on-the-job training the overwhelming majority of untried coaches need before they get to grips with the caper. So, as there is no walk-up-start out there, maybe allowing Bomber to complete his last year but with a beefed-up support staff is the best option.

Interesting that Frank keeps talking about the role of on-field leadership. Is this to take the heat off his lack of off-field leadership this year. 10 weeks on holiday in the last 12 weeks of the season does not look like someone who has a real passion for the job. This goes along with his comment in the age that its only the football guys who are impatient for success - the business based board members are more patient. Well Frank, we are a FOOTBALL club and the supporters want on-field success, and you have had eight years, and Bomber has had seven to deliver. We are sick of "There's always next year"

If you don't understand this Frank, then let Gareth take over, at least it seems that he wants on-field success, not just profit forecasts.

No more window dressing time, for real change at Geelong!
