If the Weid is athletic perhaps he can be played elsewhere then KP.
Not to sure how fast he is. Wing?
No idea although his highlight package to me he looks an athlete.

Yeah. At the time Hawks had the goodwill from premierships to keep taking swings at the trade table. I just think that the image of GW being a Doddoro like hardass at the trade table is incorrect. FWIW pick 19 ended up fluffed in classic Carlton fashion on Boekhurst, so that's nice.
GW is certainly not like doddoro, but in gets in and does the job. Yes he has some misses, so does everyone doing the job these day. Unfortunately when you go after a certain player and he agree to play for you, there is a chance that you over pay, and l am sure GW has done this
But on the whole he gets good value back.

Not so active below his knees…I’m really not a fan. But I get that with our draft hand we might need to take some chances and hope they develop into more than what they currently are.

It doesn’t work when the player can’t compete in a contest.
Hopefully Craig ends this ruckmen playing as key forwards madness
He’s got pretty good straight line speed, stick him the goal square and get him to lead into space. He kicks truly…won’t happen with us at his age but he is handy forward, not too dissimilar to Ben Brown in the way that he prefers to play.

Brown is miles ahead of the player Cox is and ever will be.
He is a ruck...he doesn’t have forward nous

Id much rather go the footballer over the athlete, and I recognise find a mix of both is hard…but it’s necessary.

We are too one paced through the middle Macrae, Poulter, Adam’s, Pendles, Sidey, Sier, Ginivan, Grundy, Bianco, Brown, Daicos…none have a blistering turn of pace. We need some pace to compliment that, perhaps McInnes can be part of that solution. Speed is critical in today’s game.

Not against Lipinski but legitimately how many of the above can we afford to play in the same part of the ground? Happy for him to come if the plan us to bring in more pace through other means.

Sidebottom and Pendles will be gone in 1-2 years. Brown (I presume you mean Tyler, not Callum) might be as well - hope he isn't but he didn't come on this year the way I'd hoped he would. Ginnivan will be a small forward for the duration of his career in the AFL.

Sier has good breakaway speed and has more than his fair share of toe in general, something that is often overlooked when people are (justifiably) on his back about his effort levels, off-the-ball running and intensity. Whether he is at the club going forward is another question, but he does have pace.

I do agree we need some pace through the middle and around the ground in general, but there's not a lot of teams even towards the top of the ladder who have multiple players with a blistering turn of speed, so to expect us to unearth that out of nowhere might not be within the realms of possibility. Having said that it shouldn't preclude us from going after a potential quality midfield pivot like Lipinski who could anchor our next-gen midfield.

I really can't see one of McRae's first moves trading out a club legend who can still offer something in Sidebottom its just not how he operates.

Sidey is very well liked around the club and probably worth more to us with a young list then what he is worth in picks or player trades
McRae may just invigorate Sidey into the 2nd coming, even at his ripe old age of 31.

No I said we needed skills and speed, I didn’t say skills or speed. I’d rather have skills than speed, but we needed both as a slow and a team with poor skills. The other knock I have on him is that he’s not hard at it…in my view you can’t just get by on skills…you have to bring something else, either speed or contest or height…something.

Agree the verdict is out on what sort of forward he will be. Even if it’s only 20-25 goals a year, the 3rd tall to go with Mihocek and Cameron will help our structures

I think he’ll actually end up being a better defender in the long term. Take Madgens spot because he can intercept mark rather than fist it 9 times out of 10 like the latter.

For this reason alone Riccardi is worth taking the punt on imo. Could be another Howe and Mihocek like recruit- who ends up better down the opposite end than what they were recruited for

And for the potential down back... I’d go Riccardi over Weideman if given the choice.

Weideman for mine is a ruck forward... not a proper full forward... and we already have a decent ruck forward in Cameron

Problem is our 1st and 2nd forwards you’ve listed there should be our 2nd and 3rd talls.

We’ve missed out in recent years on some of the best Key Forwards in the game in a Lynch and Jezza Cameron.

I don’t see Riccardi being the next big thing, we either hold cash next year and lure King back to Victoria or find one high in the draft next year.

In terms on reinventing either Weideman or Riccardi as defenders, that’s a different story which could work. I’ve mentioned a couple weeks ago I’d like Weideman down back. Riccardi would be interesting too, age being his advantage.

Yep, hopefully gets a rocket up him.

He has pretty good forward nous in the prelim against Richmond. I’m not saying we keep or really that he’s that great a player, the reality is it has been tough going for any forward in our team with our poor delivery. Cox is not as bad what people think.

I'd be keen to see him down back. I feel like he's a bit similar to Moore, but not as athletic. He's got the attributes but it doesn't seem to come together. Don't think his agility and skills are good enough for wing. I feel like the pressure of "perform or your out of a premiership contender" got to him this year.

Gee I hope Tyler Brown comes on next year. Given up hope on Cal.

It would be foolish of McRae to keep Cox when we know it doesn’t work and is tried and tested under the old regime.
Move him on and go and target and bring in proper key forwards.

Foolish? What a crock. If McRae and the FD decide to keep Cox it'll be because they see some benefit to the team. I'll back their assessment over yours.

Agree. Melbourne FC for starters.

Yeah, I get the desire to "move on" but our trading and drafting over the past decade as been so deplorably bad that it almost certainly cost us a Premiership, perhaps two. Trading of future picks for Daicos points, Lipinski or whoever just adds even more risk of ****-ups.

Ned Guy is the only one to really feel the axe for it but we was merely the last in a long line of culprits. I'm frustrated by the lack of accountability among those who are paid to get it right. It is many years since Derek Hine could lay any claim to being a recruitment alchemist but he still seems to be revered and his position untouchable.

Here's hoping that we are finally turning the corner with Graeme Wright making the big calls.
