as a saints supporter i do love powell. As most of us love all players (well some dont really like goddard.)
Powell is great trade bait. He doesnt really have a place in our team anyway. we could really get something good for him.
what do you guys reckon?

fair call saintmatt, he is getting a fair wod of money from us, therefore we would have more room in the cap if we let him go. But his hardness at the ball would be a great loss, although we have the hayes, bally, harvey, dal etc for that now...

He is slow which is a real prob for a fast side like us...

good trade bait.. good call

Too late to trade him now with the season he's had. At the end of last year we might have got something for him, but now he's 29 and his lack of pace (which has always been a weakness) will be amplified in his old age.

He's already been at 3 clubs anyway, and if he was traded you wouldn't get much for him. He's useful enough as a depth player though, and is hard at the ball.

Johnny is right. He's not good trade bait because he wouldn't be worth anything on the open market.

I don't think he was terrible this year. I reckon he'll struggle to be in our best 22 next year but he's hard at it and I wouldn't mind if he was given another year. We don't need to make wholesale changes and there might be a few others that are delisted/traded before him.

Powell is worth little as trade bait and yet is still valuable to us. He is an hard in-and-under player who has a role playing off the bench in a similar vein to Thompson. Both are aging and yet their experience and maturity are their greatest assets. Knowing that they would have few opportunities at other clubs, means that they have lttle bargaining power (Peckett might fit into this category as well) - so that they end up being quite inexpensive to re-sign.

They are good ordinary players who allow the big bucks to be distributed where it is needed (Keeping our stars). Every club needs them and St Kilda moreso than most.

We can't have a list comprising entirely of stars, the salary cap wont allow it, these players and a few of the fringe players coming through are the ones we need to fill the holes to allow us to retain the stars that we have, and hope to get.

Powelly must stay

I think powell will struggle for a game next year/... we cant afford to play too many people off the bench like Ackland,Hamil, thomo, powell, frankie, harvs (who all need adequite bench time for a rest, because their ageing or because we won't to keep them unijured.....

With Gwilt, Mcquaklter having a pre-season under their belts.... they will be pushing for a spot.... cant have too many playing off teh bench really

I must watch different games to you guys. S Powell is a hard in and under player who has over come some injuries and has been given some big jobs on other teams on-ballers. Just take a close look at his hard at it work.

umm maybe not such a good call unless you're planning on trading him to the SANFL.

Goddard while he is still worth something... Maybe to brisbane for one of their plethora of young talls.

A ruckman and a good coach away from 3peating and you know it!
