When Campbell Brown tells Clarkson to **** off, he'll probably want to leave the Hawks but stay in Melbourne.

Are we interested?

Expect one of the following to occur soon

N.Brown (Rich) to Saints
Peake to Saints

Eddy to WC

and, not sure but i heard Maguire to Richmond - did he sign a new contract this week?

So where did you hear this stuff.

N Brown would need to be very cheap ( round 3 pick ).
Peak has a discussion thread already.
Eddy for ? He's a Gippsland boy so unlikely to have requested it.
Maguire for ?

The fail at this time of year beggars belief.

just about everything that has happened to date has been as a result of a player wanting out or being forced out. Very widely speculated with no real surprises.

Gibson
Raines
McLean
Dalziell
Seaby (with Staker & Buchanan being willing to facilitate the deal)
Hall
Lovett
Fevola

Nathan Brown has limited currency - why would a club trade for him? Can't see that the Sants would be interested with Milne & Schneider also needing to play cose to goals. WTF on Eddy is all I can say.

Brown can play higher also and has class. The other two cant and don't. Brown would be a great fit for the next two years . Love to see him in a saints jumper. We desperatly need a classy half forward.

Think playing up the ground is beyond him these days, and doesn't have a presence overhead. I hope we are smart enough to pass on him and Robertson (can't believe another thread was started on the latter).

I'm starting to get a bit worried we're overdoing it, between clearing space for traded players and draftees looks like we're going to swing the axe for the third consecutive year.

Someone make a thread with the current list and what we need to do.

Weve had two retirements. So theres Peake and Lovett.

We will upgrade Dawson. One spot.

Two draftees minimum - 3 spots.

Thats 3 delistings at minimum now.

With us having to pick up 2 players in the draft surely we must be expecting a draft pick earlier than 48 if we just traded it away for a hack we could've picked up with pick 90 in the draft. Probably 47 from Brisbane for Xav.

Ball, Xav + Leigh Fisher.

If there is any substance to the Eddy rumour it could be:

Eddy + Ball to Magpies for first round pick.
Eddy + Davis to WestCoast for first round pick.

Unless something like that happens I'd expect us to use only our best draft pick + elevate Dawson + elevate Miles

That would leave us to de-list Fisher, maybe Connors, maybe one of last years recruits if they haven't done enough. Would have to let Haretuku go. Could explain why there is talk about a trade with X for a pick we wouldn't use , but you would think that X would have to agree to it.

Senior List

Safe (30)

David Armitage, Steven Baker, Jason Blake, Raphael Clarke, Nick Dal Santo, Sean Dempster, Sam Fisher, Michael Gardiner, Jarryn Geary, Sam Gilbert, Brendon Goddard, Jason Gram, James Gwilt, Lenny Hayes, Nick Heyne, Clinton Jones, Steven King, Justin Koschitzke, Andrew Lovett, Tom Lynch, Ben McEvoy, Andrew McQualter, Stephen Milne, Leigh Montagna, Brett Peake, Farren Ray, Nick Riewoldt, Adam Schneider, Rhys Stanley, Jack Steven.

Unsafe (5)
Colm Begley, Paul Cahill, Ejay Connors, Leigh Fisher, Alistair Smith

Will/might be traded (4)
Luke Ball, Xavier Clarke, Robert Eddy, Matt Maguire

That's 39, the same number we had during the season (I think, but haven't been able to confirm, Max was on the veteran's list).

We need to trim to at least 35. Promoting Dawson means one less draftee, but we still need to clear a space for him.

Then there's Miles.

Maximum of two veterans outside the list. Besides, Blake isn't old enough (need to be 30 that year), Milne is still one season short (at least ten seasons).

So we can promote Lenny and Bakes. That takes us to a list size of 40. We take on two draftees, plus promote Dawson. We currently have 39 players.

I've been doing the maths and going over the list until my head hurts. It's going to be tight. That's without factoring in the salary cap.

I think Cahill and Smith are safe, one year after being drafted. They get at least a second year in "the Ross Lyon Apprenticeship Scheme", and I assume they are under contract for next year.

Leigh Fisher is gone, and I would expect Connors and Begley to be in big, big trouble. Connors could end up still at the club, but on the rookie list.

And if we elevate Miles and Dawson, we only need to draft one player - at pick 32.

I agree we will probably only draft one player, and I think that is probably the sticking point with a Luke Ball trade.
We don't want to trade him for say pick 31 and a fourth round pick because If we only draft one player we are only marginally better off than we are now.
