Has Tom Boyd actually confirmed that he wants to go to the Dogs?
Rocked by Griffen's request to be traded to the Giants last week, the Bulldogs hit back at GWS on Monday by declaring Boyd was seeking a move to the Whitten Oval.

Triple M reporting tonight, deal is close Jaksch, Whiley and #19 for #7. I hope it goes through. The tension is unbearable.
Heard that everyday for the past week and it still hasnt happened
2.04pm: Fair bit of frustration out there as we await our fourth official move of the Trade Period. The Blues are expected to finalise the Kristian Jaksch deal today

Patrick Smith got stuck into him this morning. He said that less than a day after slamming Griffen for wanting to break his contract to go elsewhere they go and talk to a contracted player and offer him a huge contract. Funny listening. I like Patrick Smith now.Where's the outrage for the Dogs president trying to poach Boyd like when Loguidice tried to poach Graham Wright?
Yes, that was riveting radio this morning when Smith got into Gordon. Loved it!!Patrick Smith got stuck into him this morning. Why would a first year player want to (Boyd) want to come back to Victoria after one year in Sydney.
(1) Doesn't like Sydney (Sin City)
(2) Is homesick for his family and friends in Melbourne.
(3) Has a financial offer he can't refuse from Bulldogs. (Media reports today $750000 over 4 years) equating to $3mil over 4 years.
Is unprecendented in AFL that a player after one year as a drafted player requests a move. If only he holds back for another year, and we go after him with a similar or better offer?

He'd be pushing heaven and earth to get himself the mother load pay cheque
Find it hard to believe that we haven't been in Boyd's ear for just as long as the Dogs have. I wonder what swayed his decision?
Most likely thing was money, I guess. Our salary cap must have less room than I thought. A million a season is a lot, but surely we could have that cleared that out if Boyd wanted to come? Waite retires. Judd with a pay cut. Delist a few better paid players like McClean and Warnock. I don't know. Maybe we just don't have the room.
Or maybe we just got completely schooled by the Bullies on how to get a big deal done.
I think your right on the money. Other Clubs aren't going to trade him when they know they can pick him up for free in the draft. The club was putting it out there to see if anything was offered.Actually I believe you are wrong. The board wants him gone, the football department and the playing group including MM like him and want to help him through. Know for a fact he is still a big part of the club and is busting a gut to do all the right things in hope of being retained. Garlett wanted out and after Waite the club weren't going to put in the effort and we're happy to move him on. My source, is a close friend who's relation is part of the football department. Bottom line, is if it's a decent deal they'll consider it, but nothing is a given. I think the chances of Mitch staying are 80/20. Part of the problem is now gone.
As much as I want Boyd at our club, I couldn't pay $5m over five years for a 19yo kid.
I think he will be a superstar, but I also don't think he will dominate the league for 3-4+ years. Which means that you are getting $200-$500k worth of output for a few years while paying $1m a year and then maybe getting value at the end of the contract.
If Boyd kicks 25, 35, 45, 55, 65 goals in the next 5 years you would be very happy with his development. But I wouldn't pay $1m/pa for that output....
Does any supporter remember Josh Kennedy (WCE) when he spent a few years at Carlton? Was not setting the world on fire for the first few years. They say big men take longer to develop, and I believe this to be true. Look at Kennedy now, one of the best KP Forwards in the comp. I also believe the Jaksch deal is a foregone conclusion. Boyd is going to be a star for whoever he plays for, and Jaksch will be a star for us.As much as I want Boyd at our club, I couldn't pay $5m over five years for a 19yo kid.

Agree. But the idea of selling the farm for a player, let alone a 1st yr player like Boyd, doesn't work anymore. You need a list not a few stars and some depth. Nothing to spew about yet. Can't see GWS (I really mean the AFL) letting their number 1 pick walk after 1 year.See sydney, sold the farm.. yeah it got em into a granny but they didnt get the chocolates....
Hawks, Sydney pre-2104 and Geelong... none of these teams payed players god-father like contracts.... Culture Culture Culture.... yes ill admit im spewing about Boyd.. but as you say you sell the farm for 1 player expect to have 2-3 positions suffer because of it.
Build the team first then top it up.
