We are lead to believe it's 5 years at 500.

So 4 for 2 mill remaining

No, he was still contracted for this year. His 5-year contract begins in 2017 and runs until the end of the 2021 season.

Why didn't you guys tell me that hamish was on such a monster contract the other day?!

That changes everything!
No way any club- including gws and gc will go near him with a 2.4-2.8 million dollar price tag attached!

Poor hamish must have just offered himself up as trade bait because he feels guilty!
You guys cant put any decent new players around him because he's maxing out your cap.

Geez, forget trading him- your best offer will be a 2nd or 3rd rounder unless you agree to pay half his contract at his new club.

Your best bet is using his guilt to get him to voluntarily renegotiate his contract down 200k p/a

I heard on Big Footy that Patty McCartin will have to have his brain removed because of all his concussions and that it will be replaced with an onion.

Oh ok well that's more reasonable.
But still i think that price will limit who will be interested.
Especially given the 2 teams most desperate for mature talent and draft picks to burn, gws and gc will be very tight cap wise- gws especially. (they had to let treloar go because of cap).

On the open market, especially with gc and gws in the running, he's definitely worth a first rounder.

But with only a few possible clubs (including my mob), I'd doubt you'll get a first rounder offer so i reckon he'll stay.

Seriously you've been banging on about this for days now and it's the same old same old. You're not St Kilda's recruiting manager and you've more than had your say. Move along.

Carlton didn't even play Reynolds (Only 21 now) in the right position. He was on the wing or something.

How are we going to improve our best 22 with a 3rd rounder? Nankervis is one of the decent young fwd/rucks we can get on the cheap.

As for only wanting to develop Howard, He's injured. Our backups at KPF now are Young, Palmer and Neade.

If we pay a small price for nankervis , worthy of a depth player and give him no promises about playing time then sure.

But realistically Sydney will look to squeeze a pick from 30-45 for him and he will be looking for opportunity. I've seen nothing to suggest a Dixon westhoff nankervis forward line will be anything other than a train wreck and far too top heavy. So while it might be nice to consider him sitting in the wings for life after Ryder or for insurance he will be looking for playing time, and any club that brings him in is likely doing so having promised him some chance of that.

As I said , I see no chance of him improving our first 22 unless he is a good mobile forward , which doesn't sound like him at all.

If he came here he'd be playing a lot more than he would at Sydney but he would still spend the odd game at SANFL level because he's still a kid.

Just speaking about KPF and Rucks, I think replacing Schulz, Butcher and Lobbe with Nankervis and a top 10 pick KPF (if we trade Hartlett) would be good and saves us a heap of cap space too.

I have a feeling that the club is using the Hammer trade as a smoke screen, whilst they are on to something else. Port has not hit it on the head and come out and said he's a required player but the club have not officially said they want to trade HH either.

It could be a good way to find out, what sort of players and draft picks clubs are willing to let go.

The club has made no bones about the fact Hartlett is on the trade table for the right price. There's nothing to hit on the head. He's there. It's no secret. But he's not there to fetch us a low first round pick + fringe player, he's been put up to try and fetch us a top 10 pick, most likely Richmond's first. If this doesn't occur he stays.

I dont understand why so many people are willing to move on Young for a random pick. Just about to come into his prime and will be a 200 gamer for us, has the qualities that alot of our players lack.

Works hard, takes responsibility, handles pressure well, steps up in big moments. We'd be mad to get rid of him imo.

I think people get too caught up in the potential of draft picks and young draftees. Jesse Palmer is shiny and new but I haven't seen anything yet to suggest he'll become a better player than Young is now.

He also tackles, chases, and gives us something in that forward line that no one else on our list really does. Was this year a one off? Maybe. But maybe it was also the start of something special for Youngy. We never really got to see him in full flight when the sub rule was around, and now that he's found his spot in the forward line, I think we've got a player on our hands.

Would be against trading him as well.

On the Young question, ideally what we need is our best players playing like they're playing for their lives. That's what guys like Yoing do. This is great and important, but the difference between being a genuine contender and a mere potential finalist is having the most talented players on the list getting the best out of themselves. If we had a team full of Aaron Yoing's we'd never win a flag. If we had a team full of Hamish Hartlett's and Chad Wingard's playing with Aaron Young's vigour we'd be unstoppable.

Despite what you read, I reckon that's what most Port people want. The whole HH thing was very poorly reported and has opened this thread to some pretty stupid commentary

Pretty much sums our squad up.

Apart from Ollie and Robbie.....

I like Travis, but I feel things have gotten on top of him a bit as captain. Ollie is a true leader and can't wait to see him in charge.

I'd like to see Travis go back and focus on his football for his last years

Agreed.
Also helps that Aaron doesn't have a 4 or 5 year contract where he can be complacent.

In saying that, even without the long term contracts we have a list of players who seem to play well when they feel like it.....and it shits me!

Hence the argument against the ridiculous lifetime contracts we've dished out of late.

You're not going to play for your life when you're protected deep inside Fort Knox with nothing to do but play with your gold brick.

I put Chad at the top of this list. He has stagnated. Seems to just be cruising. Do you think our lack of top picks in the draft the past few years has contributed to our players not feeling threatened enough by new young top/ arrogant bulls?

And hence why putting Hammer on the table is at minimum a kick up his arse as well as the rest of the senior players.

What the club has 'actually' said is that every offer for every player will be considered. Obviously secretly there are some off limits. Hammer's was a big name leaked, so created the media hype, but there are others.

So you want to put added pressure on Ollie instead ????

Also think our selection policy may contribute to it. Our "stars" don't get dropped when they're out of form. Geez even O'Shea after the Carlton debacle wasn't dropped, these players are in cruise control.

Hence, Ken requires some Wise Counsel according to KT.

Chad was playing with a busted finger most of the year, along with leg issues. Despite that he still had a reasonable year, given our forwards got shit delivery from round 1.

Word.

It's a year late, but better late than never.

I've heard players go on at length about their desire to keep the group together, the most recent being Ollie. This at least fires a shot over the bow to say "if you boys like being around each other so much maybe pull your collective finger out to ensure you're not shipped off to the Russian Front".

Better late than never, eh?
