Opinion Traded Players You Missed Most

He was delisted and not traded, but I always liked Gary Dhurrkay. Was a long way from a star, but still one of the smoothest and most skilled/talented players I've seen. RIP.
Another vote for Clement as well. The way he was treated by Drum was an absolute disgrace.
Gutted When Gary Dhurrkay passed away. Thursday is his 10th anniversary of his passing. Its been that long another guy that had talent and went to North was Winston Abraham.

For me it was the lack of playing opportunities given to Bell and the loss of him to North.

Bell had 6 disposals in his 1st game and 3 in his 2nd. He was miles behind Callaghan and Toia at that stage. Even Peter Miller started off better. When the size of the list had to be trimmed (52 to 48 i think) Bell hadn't done enough. He pretty much admitted that in his HoF speech.

Phil Gilbert kept getting opportunities at Freo and repaid the faith with an average 5.54 possessions.

He was retained in 1996 and Bell wasn't. The playing opportunities for Bell were dismal even though he was widely tipped to be a future champ and even though Gilbert was doing the above stats. I didn't see Callaghan or Toia as competing with Bell, only Gilbert. Interestingly, Bell and Gilbert both got 2 goals each for the season - it just took Bell two games and Gilbert 11.

I always saw it as a playoff between the two and it infuriated me. I can't remember what contract issues were at play.

In addition to the above, I was sorry to see our Prince of Pockets traded, though the decision made sense, as he was fading.

Actually to be more precise Gilbert was an undersized fullback in the Robbie Hadrill mould. Only 185 but at WAFL was a competent key defender. Played Full back in Claremonts 1996 premiership.

Not competing with Bell at all.

Steven Koops. Never really kicked on when he left Freo but I liked him when he was with us.
Injuries.
I work with his wife up here, he was dogged by injuries, wasn't treated well by Freo, traded to Dogs under a cloud, and apparently doesn't like to talk about the AFL at all these days.

Clement for me, then McPhee - I think we missed out on having him at his best.

Really?? I don't ever remember him playing full back in 95

Mainly played third tall at AFL level. O'Reilly was full back.

Although there were other bland anonymous ex-Claremont players that played before Bell that you've probably given the generic Gilbert label to! Scott Edwards, Jamie Merillo, Tony Delaney come to mind first who were all bog average footballerd. All were smallish mids.
