With interest pretty much centered in planning for next year, I thought I'd see what everyone thinks of who we may draft.

We all know Bailey is pretty much committed to a youth policy, but if we were able to attract a good player at low cost it might be worth a look.

So below are a few names that have been thrown about - in no way am I saying they will definately be traded by their clubs - but let's have some fun.

Next to each name, tell us if you think he'd be a good addition to the Dees, and what you'd be prepared to give up for them.

R Warnock (Freo - assume we trade for him rather than get him for free):
B Primsall (Geelong):
D Kerr (West Coast):
N Lovett (Essendon):
M Seaby (West Coast):
D Pearce (Port Adelaide):
J Griffin (Adelaide):
K Tenance (Geelong):
T Boyle (Hawthorn):
B Cousins (LA rehab FC):

***Feel free to add names that might also be available***

R Warnock (Freo): Must-get, preferably for free.
B Prismall (Geelong): Yes, but not for too much.
D Kerr (West Coast): No.
A Lovett (Essendon): No.
M Seaby (West Coast): No.
D Pearce (Port Adelaide): Would cost too much.
J Griffin (Adelaide): No.
K Tenace (Geelong): If cheap, I'd have him. We need pace.
T Boyle (Hawthorn): Probably not, develop Watts instead.
B Cousins (LA rehab FC): No.

R Warnock (Freo): If we can't get him for free he's worth late 20's, so our 3rd round pick at 35 :)
B Primsall (Geelong): Not sold on the idea of bringing him in, he's good but what he brings isn't what we need most in a midfielder. 3rd rounder again.
D Kerr (West Coast): Nnn no dice, to old, not disciplined enough.
N Lovett (Essendon): Same reasons as Kerr accept add on major creep.
M Seaby (West Coast): Why would we want another Mark Jamar?
D Pearce (Port Adelaide): Yes please, Mark Jamar + 2nd rounder.
J Griffin (Adelaide): We can pick up a ruckman with our 3rd rounder if we want one, we aren't desperate.
K Tenance (Geelong): Has pace to burn, burns team mates with his skills, PSD.
T Boyle (Hawthorn): Not interested at all.
B Cousins (LA rehab FC): If there's no one under 22 worth taking in the PSD...

I'd also like to add Murphy from freo, he's there back up FF yes?
He is really only a lead up player, he leads, he marks, he goals.
He can't survive in the same team as Pavlich but dominates the WAFL because he doesn't have to share the 50 with any other star tall forwards, he definitely won't have any competition in our team.
I'd like to see him with our 4th-5th rounder or PSD.

Fair call. How old is he and is he out of contract at all? Could very well be a good addition.

He's 23 atm, birthday is in May he's 192cm and 95kg
Pretty sure he's coming out of contract.
Atm he's really only playing as a backup, for when pavlich is out of the team, as it has been shown that he just can't play when there are other presenting forwards in the team.
However he kicks quite a few bags in the WAFL.
Definitely worth having a look at.
FWIW he was taken at pick 12 in the 2003 draft, which was a fairly weak draft admittedly, however it does show that he was rated at junior level.

Interesting. Why hasn't his name been thrown about as much as others?
At 23 he could be good for a few years while Watts develops.

Hi Guys

There has been a constant contest betweem Murphy and Campbell for that 3rd tall which Freo love to run.

Campbell has basically won that battle now and I would think Murphy is excess to needs.

We won't delist him as we have lost a lot of players and there would be a temptation to keep him as he does kick bags of goals at the local level

If I am being honest he is probably worth a 3rd rounder...but seeming you guys are at the pointy end of the draft - it would probably be closer to your 4th round pick.

Bloody straight kick however his defensive intensity is pretty poor IMHO.

His name was right up there next to Boyle's as key forwards being offered around at the end of the season as recently as a month or 2 ago, not sure why every seems to have forgoten about him. I don't think anything has changed to say that he's any more valued at freo now.

As above, he's battling with Campbell for the 3rd tall spot, rated behind Pav and Tarrant. His defensive pressure rivals Juice (exlcuding Juice's game against WC when someone told him what a tackle was). Honestly i think he'd be battling in & out of the side with Juice, which would be good to have another option but i wouldn't be giving up any picks for. PSD if available, maybe

All pretty much mentioned.

How about:

Rusling (Collingwood)
Hansen (West Coast)
Jaymie Graham (West Coast)

If the club is desperately need a KPP FF?

Bailey has said that we won't trade away picks 1, 17 and 19. So pick 35 (third rounder) will probably be the highest pick we can offer.

I totally agree with what Bails is doing. But, seeing as though we'll get 3 or the top 19 kids in the draft (if our recruiters are doing their jobs) maybe that 3rd rounder could be used to get a young-ish, solid player to the club to bolster the list for next year.

R Warnock (Freo): definetley get him our 3rd rounder
B Primsall (Geelong): if we can get him for the right price
D Kerr (West Coast): would be the superstar the Dees lack but Bailey seems set on his youth policy so we won't touch him
N Lovett (Essendon): too old, too undiciplined and too inconsistent no thanks
M Seaby (West Coast): id rather Alastair Nicholson back
D Pearce (Port Adelaide): yeah but will cost us too much
J Griffin (Adelaide): no thanks
K Tenance (Geelong): Yupp we need his pace
T Boyle (Hawthorn): only for next to nothing
B Cousins (LA rehab FC) could get Melbourne some badly needed Media attention, a great player but far too old im afraid

R Warnock (Freo): Yeah, I would hope the club would deal for him.
B Primsall (Geelong): No, but I know others differ in their opinion of this player
D Kerr (West Coast): No, strategic direction the club is taking in terms of list management means he shouldn't even be given thought (unless Schwab has a say)
N Lovett (Essendon): N Lovett?? Do you mean Andrew Lovett ot Nathan Lovett-Murray?
M Seaby (West Coast): No
D Pearce (Port Adelaide): A reasonable option, but I think it may be quite difficult to broker a deal.
J Griffin (Adelaide): I don't know much about him in all honesty
K Tenance (Geelong): Another interesting prospect, as he would add some of the things our midfield lacks.
T Boyle (Hawthorn): A reasonable option, but I think the draft should provide an avenue to get KPPs.
B Cousins (LA rehab FC): No, but with Schwab at the helm, who knows?

***Feel free to add names that might also be available***

This is an interesting list of prospects. I've placed my thoughts above.

Unlikely trade options - other than RW - but everyone can be chased..

Ben McKinley (west coast)
Albert Proud (Brisbane)
Shaun Higgins (Western Bulldogs)
Robert Warnock (Freo)

Proud Albert has been shisen-housen this year, and I have watched him very closely. Had limited opportunity but is a bang crash type player (like Byron), but without the skill.

I heard David Munday from Freo was talking about coming back to Melbourne. He could be a good get as a backman/Winger, but depends on what they want ?

Just hypothetical....so dont shoot me down.

Wheatley + Sylvia = First Round

I know Wheatley has been in great form. But how old is he? Must be about 26? Defiantly has Currency.

Sylvia obvious reasons why we could trade this bloke, although his last 5 games have been positive. Defiantly has currency.

I think we could get a serious pic for these two. Like a 7 to 12

Thoughts?...

Hmm.. Interesting. Wheatley and Syliva would be quite valueble...

Is it worth it... If the deal was down on the table for a pick 7, then i would probably take it.

Not sure if they're worth it, but if we can get it f_ck yes!!

Wheatley is 27, 28 early next season, so has at least 3 years as many as 5 years.

If we could do this we could get Watts, then a top-flight mid (Ziebell or Sidebottom) and then a another quick midfielder and another key forward or midfielder with pick 19. So 2 KP forwards and 2 midfielders or Watts and 3 midfielders in the top 20, yes please.

yeah, I'd defiantly take it to..

I think other clubs see Sylvia as a possible 'Medhurst Style turn around' and thats why his value is a early 2nd rounder..

Wheatley is a great Half Back that creates space on the wing and also has a lethal left foot. This season is probably his best, for a team that is vying for the finals now. He would be a great pick up along with Sylvia...

Who would be interested?

Possibly a Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton...

1)pearce - yes id love him too. Unfortunately for anyone wanting him he has played very well the last 3 weeks and his currencey would have risen. I was hoping he was going to stink it up for the rest of the year, could have got a real bargain and a potential star.
I would give up our priority pick for pearce and if need be throw mark jamar in.

2)murphy - im not sold on at all. he looks bloody lazy when hes playing and for a former first round pick he should have shown more than what he has as of now. I think we can do better with our psd pick and i wouldnt be giving up any sort of draft pick 3rd round or better for him.

Give me David Mundy in the psd, he wants back to melbourne and can use the ball. Something we desperatley need. Put a price on his head and get him connells!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with your assessment dee-molision.

Pearce would be a great acquisition, as he could add midfield pace which is something we greatly need. Mundy is another good option, as he can use the ball well and has plenty of years ahead of him.

Would anyone consider Richard Douglas from Adelaide? I like him as a player, although I'm not sure what his current situation at Adelaide is. I do know he's a Victorian boy, and this means its very possible he's open to a move from a Victorian club. Adelaide would probably want something reasonably substantial in return though.

I'd think it would be worth persisting with Sylvia, his currency won't drop over the next 2-3 years and his body will get better.

No one throws up Wheatley's name for trade, I'd think he would be very tradeable, would definitely be up there for value in our club.

Maybe something like Wheatley+Bruce/Green for a pick 12-16??
I could see Hawthorn, Sydney or possibly North Melbourne going for something like this.

Jamar + a 2nd rounder for Pearce? I don't think so.

However given Watts well known desire to stay in Melbourne to the point he's virtually untouchable by a non-Vic. club as too high risk, Melbourne could make great use of this.

Melbourne - Gain Pick #4, D. Pearce
Loss Pick #1, 2nd round pick.

Port gain Pick #1, 2nd round pick
Loss D. Pearce, pick #4.

Port jump WC and Freo. to get Nic. Nat. and a second round pick.
Melbourne get the player they want anyway at #4, plus get a quality midfielder for a bargain price.

This I call a win-win trade for all. Of course if the Melbourne recruiters don't have their eye on Watts as first choice it all falls apart.
