Edit for the PC crew:
The tinman was a lovely fellow even without a heart and I have no doubt Toy can be a wonderful footballer despite (in spite of?) his heart complications.

PS which of the bolded am I after in that sentence? Those two have always confuzzled me

Brown was not traded. Hawthorn wanted to keep him but Gold Coast signed him an an uncontracted player. Turned out to be good for the club, but the club did not want him to go.

The parallels between Brown and Young are uncanny.
I hope we don't lose Young but if a club can offer him 30-50% more than we are, he will be going.
I just hope it's not the Pies. Just how can Collingwood afford all those players?

I would want to keep Gilham and young more than murphy and ellis. I think people are forgetting that before Gilham did his ACL he was one of the first picked backmen. Solid, well skilled and could lock down the best forwards. I know there is development still to be had in Shoenmakers, but IMO Gilham should get a game over Murphy.
Some key words that need to be considered.

Unfortunate but true. Even if structurally his knee returns to what it was pre-ACL, and whether that is the case or not I wouldn't have the faintest, some players struggle to regain confidence in their body after a major injury and perhaps that may be true of Gilham.

The players are guaranteed selection on upcoming episodes of who wants to be a millionaire/hot seat/deal or no deal/whatever he's bloody hosting these days

I think Toy could still be a good footballer despite that heart condition but he won't be the elite midfielder that he could have been. Would still be worth grabbing if we can get him for a 3rd rounder but I think Gold Coast would rather commit then take that offer.

I'm not overly keen on picking up Toy if he has issues with his heart. I haven't seen a large amount of him play but just wouldn't want to take the risk. Though that being said we let Tucky go because we were worried about his heart amongst other things and he's better quite good for the tigers.

I have no problem with Young leaving for more money better contract terms. I like Young as a player and as a part of Hawthorn. What i do have a problem with is if he goes to Collingwood, to me it feels as though we are supplying the ammo for their gun a very dangerous thing to do. I also understand that as an UFA there is not a whole lot the Hawks can do if he really wants to go, but if they can offer a little more to keep him then i really think they should push the financial boundary as much as they can. Keeping young from Collingwood would be worth a few thousand IMHO.

Two things
- Gilham and Murphy are completely different players and aren't competing against each other for a spot so to say Gilham should get a game over Murphy isn't accurate
- in his brief outings this year Gilham was appalling. In the RIchmond game his tentativeness completely disrupted the backline and he struggled even against the Suns. Whether it's lack of confidence in his knee or whatever, he just didn't look the same player.

What's the best compensation we can expect for Young ?

Any trade news on Bailey, Murphy & Gilham ?
If Goddard is worth 13 then realistically we would be looking at about pick 35-40 for Young. (In other words a bag of Burger Rings)

Afl compensate on players earnings in this case I believe. Youngy would have to be somewhere between the 250-320k mark per year....

Caddy signed with Cats. Cripes.

Really not that big of a deal. People are going overboard for a bloke that finished 17th in the B&F of the team that finished second last.

He might be a good player in the future, but it is no certainty.

Wow really?
I though he was a superstar or something because how the way people went on about him. But to be honest when I do see the Suns I notice Matera, Bennell, Swallow etc. of the young guns

Exactly look up Beau Dowler's stats mirror image to Caddy's, he's never produce anything on afl field which suggest he will live up to his pre draft hype, Weller has performed to the same standard and would cost half the price.
