Really hoping we pick up Spencer White with our first pick, the talk about his inconsistency I see as a positive for us as we don't want him peaking too early and want game time only to find himself forth inline behind Roughead, Franklin and Gunston.
I did a lot of work with the Western Jets this season and he is a player that could really turn into something amazing. He is inconsistent though which will see him slide further down the draft order but if a team can give him the 3-4 years development he needs, he could become anything. Although there were better players than him at the Jets this season, i seriously think if he reached his full potential he would be the pick of the bunch...but as we all know some people just never reach it.

2008 National Draft: Shane Savage Round 5 pick 75
2010 National Draft: Paul Puopolo Round 4 pick 66

Both Savage and Puopolo played in the Grand Final. My point is, there are still some good players that slip threw the draft and there is still a good chance that we might be able to land a decent player whether that's from our pick 68 or 72. :thumbsu::)

We already have a few years late but better late then never!!!!

Brian Lake (pick 71, 2001)
The two-time All Australian started his career in the "super draft" of 2001, albeit at the less than super number of pick 71. Quick, strong and an excellent kick, he's been one of the AFL's best defenders for the best part of a decade (provided we don't dwell on a horrible 2011).

Savage was picked as a 17 year old. Rules have changed since then but I get your point.

the reason brian lake was taken so late in the draft was because his whole draft year he had to play with some sort of illness( I think it might have been chronic fatigue but not 100% sure) thus severely hampering his impact in tac cup games. Its like Frank Gore from San Francisco 49ers, his college years were dogged by injury so he was taken relativly late in the draft because no one saw his full potential, he was able to overcome his injurys and is now one of the best running backs in the league.

Pretty sure Lake was drafted 'overage', from the SANFL. He's almost exactly 2 years older than Rick Ladson, who was in the same draft - he's 6 months older than Mitchell who had a year in the VFL.

Brian Lake was picked late in the 2001 AFL Draft at pick 71 from Woodville West-Torrens, he was a relatively late developer. Making his AFL debut late in the 2002 season, he was seen as a raw full-back who was some way from fully developing.
However, by the 2005 season Lake's jobs in blanketing some of the best full-forwards in the game were seen as outstanding. He had come of age and shown significant improvement!!!!

We now have picks number 28,66,70. Originally we had 29,68,72.

Thank you Adelaide Crows! :)

Completely off-topic, I had a plumber come out a few days ago and he looked exactly like Frank Costanza. Was really disconcerting.

Collingwood now have three in a row ... 18,19,20 !!

... my info leads me to believe they will pick up ..

18. Gilderoy Lockhart (Hufflepuff) ... Looks good, has some magic, but makes too many mistakes.
19. Kermit T Frog (Muppet FC) ... A bit green, but has a good leap for a short player, good entertainer.
20. JJ Binks (Naboo) ... Ruckman with a huge leap in the Nic Nat mold, questions on his intelligence, has ability.

Frog may become a crowd favourite but Binks will probably give everyone the complete irrits and be very unpopular among the masses, apart from 3 year olds. Lockhart will fit in perfectly with Collingwood's culture though, in the Dale Thomas mould.

Thanks, wikipedia.
Either way he was picked up 'over-age', and certainly not from the TAC cup. And took him a good 3-4 years to do much when he got into the system. You sort of wonder whether he'd get that much leeway, if he was drafted this year.

One would imagine the club would give serious consideration to Garlett if he slips to 29. Someone with that amount of talent is worth a punt with a second rounder unless his "transgressions" are particularly serious.

Most clubs have a "no dickheads policy" but is generally flexible if the dickhead is supremely talented.

Just where Garlett goes will give us all a good idea of his downside.

I'd take the gamble on Garlett, you can't pass up that talent at pick 28. Get him into the Hawks system and get him to live with Burgoyne for a while (would have said Changa if he was still around). You do it right and you're on a winner. Personally don't see him lasting till our pick, but who knows.

It's a bit hard to tell what the real story is with him, some talk about that he has really shaped up since he got booted from the AIS, but 'badboy' stories seem to persist.
If a club gets him right, he will be a very good pick-up.

The best pick up for the Hawks so far this year has beenGraham Wright as an addition to our recruiting team, a lot of peopldon't appreciate the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes in terms of viewing young talent to ensure that we select the appropriate players in order to fill the gaps in advance for our side!!!!

Hawks Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright has spoken on the selection process heading into the draft.

Speaking exclusively to HawksTV ahead of Thursday's 2012 NAB AFL Draft, Wright admitted the Club begins looking at players from as early as 16 years of age.

"We've got a good idea of who's around two or three years beforehand."

Wright says preparation for the draft includes predicting the choices of other clubs.

"It's thinking on your feet but obviously we prepare for a worst case scenario and hope for the best. We've got two minutes to make a decision but most of the what-ifs are done in the lead-up."

Graham Wright's interview.

Every club claims to have this; but then you look at the guys running around on their list & realise that "no dickheads" is a very subjective policy to implement. With some lists you'd wonder if they had a "dickheads only" policy...

If Garlett was still available at pick 28... well take him!! Bradley Hill also had some off field leading into the draft and some clubs just didn't want to take a punt on him. Ever since we drafted him we haven't heard a peep out of him. :thumbsu: Get Garlett if he is available, he is exactly the midfielder we need post Mitchell and Sewell era. :)

Yeah, apart from that high speed car chase in Perth he has been quiet as a mouse;)

Sydney Swans had the most public "no doof-heads" policy but now they are after Kurt Tippett!!!

Just shows all these alleged policies are flexible and open to interpretation.

Yes, they said that.
At the time, they had Nick "KFC" Davis, then they were one of the 3 clubs who went after Lovett, and picked up Rhyce Shaw after his last drink driving escapade.
It's lip service, nothing more.
