Why does everyone we draft have to be in our starting 22?

I'm not suggesting we get him, but a solid bodied AFL experianced player for depth? Not such a bad idea.
And who knows, he may blossom like some others have with a change in scenery.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I want Hawthorn to pick him up, and play him in the middle. ALl game, every game.
He managed to push Shane Valenti & Isaac Weetra out of there for a short while 4 years ago, so clearly it is going to improve a pretty good side.

More an opinion than a conclusion. We won't pick Bate up, I think he was just unlucky to play in such a poor side and if given the chance to play with players of the standard of Mitchell, Hodge, Sewell and Lewis his game would improve. But we have three picks one of which will more than likely be Osbourne(though personally I think it would be better for the club to let him go), a midfielder and a young tall forward. Then in the Rookie draft we might only go in with one pick and that will probably be used on a ruckman...so there should only be three new names add to the team list and Matthew Bate is not is not one of them. Another time with our list looking different maybe a good argument could be made about picking him up but it just won't happen. Simpkin is the type of player you're thinking we should get and we already got him, we won't pick up both Simpkin and Bate.

Agree with most of what you're saying apart from the fact that i believe we need more mature age and experienced depth players that are ready to play.
Only having one position in our rookie Draft
We need more rookie picks going in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft...Grimley is walking on shaky ground IMO

Well guess what it happened....And now their is nothing but praise for this guys from most here.
Have they proven themself's yet well 'Time will Tell' lets just hope our recruiting team have got it right.

He should help bring back "unsociable" footy to our club again.

I'm not against picking up Bate, can absorb contact at Box Hill for the year and we can play him against the loser teams were he will be serviceable(could even dominate). (Loser teams include GC, GWS, PORT and Essendon) Giving us the ability to rest Mitchell, Hodge, Sewell and Burgoyne.

But I feel out list is pretty much complete the way it is.

Second point how do we rotate the list this year and rest big bodied players with the likes of young skinny undeveloped kids out of: Woodward, Hallahan,Wanganeen, Frank, Kilkenny, Anderson, Litherland, Duryea, Kelly, Bosely, Lowden,Grimley Hill..
That's why i keep saying that we need more mature age recruited for our club so our young kids get a chance to continue to develop.

With the exception of pick 29 in the draft which should be aimed at the best young player going around within our reach Josh Simpson for me.
And for pick 68 Justin Hardy - 196cm - 97kg - KPF/KPD/Ruck Age 24 versatile mature age if he slides down our way!!!!

So if we need mature age bodies at Box Hill why doesn't Box Hill recruit them?
