Have been thinking about how Collingwood have gone about this period and was thinking what players will turn 25 next year and we could trade like Collingwood (don't get me wrong don't really want anyone to leave but just exploring). So 25 next year is born 1988 so that's draft 2006....hmmm who we have from that draft? No one, Thorpe, Renough, Morton, Kennedy and Moss all gone. So don't think we will be able to take advantage of free agency like Collingwood has for a while. The next year 2007 we have Rioli and Whitecross both are best 22.[/quote

Explain how you mean we would take advantage like Collingwood. What is the significance of being 25 years old?

FA works on a net gain basis. We won't get separate picks for both Young and Murphy, only one from what I understand.

Last year or so before you qualify for free agency so the club can move you on and get value rather than lose you for almost nothing.

Just listening to Trade Radio and they are saying the Tippett deal is not yet done.
Yeah fair enough they have until next Friday anyhow.
White was looking like the player that would switch over but with them picking up Graham, it doesn't appear they would need/want him anymore.

I see, so trading out players before they reach free agency age and getting value for them, whilst bringing in free agents who are a couple of years older to cover their loss is the way to do it. I wonder if the AFL envisaged that teams would do that.

Actually it would be very interesting if Kennedy announced he wants back to Hawthorn. After the contempt that the AFL Swans have treated Adelaide with the Tippett negotiations, arguing that Tippett has nominated AFL Swans and that Adelaide should be gentlemen and let him get there for pick 22 and Jesse White!!!!!!! It would be very funny indeed if the shoe was on the other foot.

Wont happen though :(

If it were to happen Sydney will be asking the world, as Kennedy led the competion this year in both clearances and contested possessions (the two most important stats for an inside midfielder) and to Sydney would be worth picks 1+2 in any trade even if he isn't worth that to anyone else.

Incorrect. Lose multiple players, receive multiple compensation picks. If a club loses a player to free agency but gains a player through free agency (Melbourne, for example), then the AFL will (in its infinite wisdom) net out the impact upon the club's list and then work out whether a compensation pick is needed and if so, in what band.

Hawthorn will receive two picks for losing Murphy and Young through free agency. I'm tipping a second round pick for Young and a third round pick for Murphy.

Didn't know that. A little disappointing really.

They are taking the player's photos off the club website as they go but Boumann is still up there - are they planning to re-draft him as a rookie? Was he on a 1 or 2 year contract?

If Gilham departs that leaves the following jumpers vacant - 1, 10, 11, 17, 27, 29 and 31.
I would be happy for Lake to take No.1 and Hill to take No.10. Can't see any obvious choices to fill that many though.
Our first draft pick should probably take No.27, 2nd pick No.29, 3rd pick No.31

Whatever they choose they will get announced at the AGM which is normally mid December. Does anyone know the date of the AGM? Usually mid December
Number 1 is for the fans he wont be taking that one

Yep just like Collingwood has done, I know Wellingham and Dawes came out and said they wanted to be traded but some players in the furture may not.

Talk about the systematic shafting of a club.
Home games against low drawing interstate clubs to hurt the club financially; convenient ground issues regarding prelim final scheduling; making up the rules on the run re. compo for free agents

dawes signrd up for an extension when Trav didn't. can only hope the karma bitch hits them bigtime.

Is our pick beginning or end of round 3 ? - was expecting end of round 2

I wonder what The eagles got ?

Looks like it's right before our third round pick (our second pick)

Yep and then hawthorn 'supporters' come on here and just say 'stop whining, just deal with it.' F@ck this is a disgrace. Hawthorn must issue a please explain.

Contracts should have to be tabled to the club in a 'please explain'. I can't see how Chaplin would be getting more coin than Young.

This will have sweet F*** effect on the 2013 season which is all that really matters now. Pies are probably worse off with Lynch and Young than they were with Dawes and Wellingham. We're down Young and up Lake which makes us a substantially better team. We'll still find a few gems in the draft and at the end of the day Port could have been given picks 5, 7, 9, 15 and they'd still be f***ing terrible.
