G'day Hawks
Just found out that ex Boxhill Hawk Sammy Iles was delisted by the Suns could be a handy player back at the Hawks
P.S. hope he kicks our butt [suns] when he plays against us.
No good reason for the delist as he was in top 3 in stats at club when dropped ???mid season

I've always though he was a reasonable player.
What was he like playing?
What was his strengths and weaknesses?
Age?

Was actually a little bewildered when I saw that Iles had been delisted. He was actually pretty good in the games I saw of him earlier in the season before he got dropped. Could be worth a late pick (ie if we have to use pick 84) or a rookie

Very good at finding the footy, but he is quite poor defensively and doesn't go in hard enough according to coach Guy McKenna.

Sam Iles is 25 years old

age 25 playing good footy half back /wing
strenghts pin point pass runs all day handy minder /tagger
weakness doesn't do the flashy things, he is just a dam hard worker.
some people only see the end result ie goal or big kick or mark ,but he is the sort of guy that gives it to them. His last game was against the saints he scored a brownlow vote in a losing side then was dropped the next week ?? didn't play seniors for the rest of the year . something about wanting to play younger bodies.
any way wish him well, hope someone picks him up.

Just checked and he's 27. He played for GC so I just assumed he was young, my mistake
Alright player, to old though. Pass.

Used the ball pretty well, knew how to get it but wasn't really special or hard at it. He was kind of like Whitey without his ability on the inside or defensive skills.

Solid flanker but as has been said, a little too old for our list. Someone like North could do worse though.

Do you think he would be good for Melbourne?

They could do worse than giving him a rookie spot. I'll admit that I didn't watch much of Melbourne this year (why would you?) but from what I did see, he could replace someone like Blease/Strauss/Tapscott and make an impact.

Yeah, probably better than half of Melbourne's list. Doing a fair makeover at the Dees, Iles would be good for them.

Hi Sam. :)

Just wondering what the feel is out there and if anybody had any inside info on how much interest GWS and Port Adelaide had in Stephen. My gut feeling is he is on the way out.

I have a house, I like it and should anything happen to it I'd like it replaced with the splendour I have become accustomed, therefore I pay insurance.

I have a football club, and I feel the same way.

But it's more than that - no player should feel they are a monty for their slot - competition only improves the side, and ultimately, it's horses for courses - their will be games where Gilham is the better option than Lake.

Throw in player management issues (fitness season wise) and you have to be a dick to accept pick 57 for him.

Gilham must stay.

Strongly disagree. Gilham pre injury yes. But now he has lost what little pace he had, and also is not as strong in the one on one contests. To say he is a better match up in some cases than Lake is ridiculous. Also must be on good money being a Premiership player, money we could use elsewhere. I'm sure he would rather play seniors at GWS or GCS than Box Hill waiting for an injury or 3.

And who will replace Lake should he go down for a week or 5?

Josh Gibson at Full back?

We finished 3rd in defence for the year pre-Lake... I think we can handle it if he were go down for a little while. Schoey will only get better as there were definitely games where he really became a good backman... and Josh Gibson, well lets be honest... should of been All-Australian 2 years in a row... the man is a STAR!

Yep. Melbourne's midfield is absolutely shocking. The worst midfield I have ever seen at AFL level, at least on paper. They have shocking depth in that part of the ground. Iles would help with that. But their so-called midfield stars (Jones, Trengove) are honest battlers at this stage. They toss Grimes in from the backline and Sylvia from the forward line, so they are robbing Peter to pay Paul just in order to not be laughed at in the middle.

Some bizarre responses.

You don't think he's an improvement on Puopolo?

Hawthorn were all over him during last years trade period.

From what I know, the knife is out for him at North.
