I can understand the Saints chasing Gilly as they are a little light on for KPD's.
Who would have thought they would miss Zac?

He can't run out games any more.
Plays in fits & starts. Gun quarter here & there, where he's back to his old form, then rubbish the next quarter/week.
If you want a guy purely as a super-sub, then he'd make some sense, but... dunno. Going to leave you short elsewhere.

He can handle a full game at forward pocket can't he?

I don't know. All I can say is I can't say I've seen Port use him there (at least not often or successfully).

You guys really don't rate Puopolo? Bad finals series I know, but he still kicked more goals this year than Rodan's kicked in the last 3 years.

He played well v Collingwood in the first final ... but his last two finals were poor ... he wasn't alone there.

I just don't think Puopolo has enough tricks. Anyone who played in our forward line this year would have kicked goals. Franklin, Roughead, Hale, Breust, Gunston, Lewis and Rioli all kicked more than 20 as well as Puopolo. There were just a lot of goals to be had up there, no matter who was there. Rodan may not have kicked many goals in the last three years, but he has missed football in that time, his role has been more in the midfield and as the sub, and Port have not created as many goalkicking opportunities as a team, so it is unfair to compare.

Rodan has always shown he has the ability around the goals and if given the same role as Puopolo would do it at least as well in my opinion. He kicked 28 goals in 2007 (the year Port made the grand final) playing more of a midfield role I think, judging by the amount of possessions he was getting. This shows he has goal sense.

I detected an improvement in the forward line generally which coincided when Poppy came back fit after a few rounds off.

maybe he didnt quite get the fitness base to run the season out

He was pretty good in finals last year as well.
Just don't quite know why you'd be rushing out to replace a 23? year old with a 28? year old equivalent.

I wouldn't if I thought they were equivalent. But I think Rodan could be a lot better than Puopolo in the role and would be at least as good. And it is not like we would be wasting a pick on him. We haven't got any high picks to waste. He would be a depth player on our list, with the potential to improve our team if he can find his best form. There is no risk with it. Nothing against Puopolo.

I wouldn't be -- he had a bad last two games - imo he was spent and poorly managed.

About the same time, they started playing Buddy more forward after he had previously been spending a lot more time in the midfield. This may have had an impact too. We started winning the ball in the midfield consistently as well. This always makes forward lines look good.

They're not equivalent, not even remotely similar types of players. One is in our team to apply defensive pressure because we already have the most potent attack in the competition, the other doesn't have a defensive bone in his body.

Equivalent in that they'd both basically line up forward pocket. I didn't even really think abuot it that deeply, just Rodan's age/injuries makes it pretty far fetcher IMHO.

Yeah I'm agreeing with you, we've also got Osbourne to come back too.

We wouldn't. That's just it.

Completely agree. We had so many players that looked spent by the time they got to the GF - Pops, Rough, Lewis, Hodge, Rioli...

Unbieveable given we ended with such a high percentaged, buried so many teams, but really didn't rest players during the year.

Hurt his foot badly mid season and continued to play through the pain.

If you watch some games late in the year he was limping everytime he made an effort at a contest and had really lost that extra spark he provides.

Clarko loves him and he will be a certain starter in our side in 2013.

Admittedly, I have just returned from the pub after 4 pints of beer, but Rodan should not be a small blimp on our drafting radar. Who do we drop to get him in our team? And, who else is shuffled back further in terms of getting a game, Hallahan, Schneider, Woodward etc etc.
I say ‘No to David Rodan’!!

Personally wouldn't mind him. I look at players potential when rating them, because I know Hawthorn's training and coaching can get more out of player then any other team's can. I've seen Rodan play some blinders and I've seen him play some shockers. Consistency a big issue. I believe our coaches can make him reach a level of consistency he's never seen.

If he's available at 65-66 we should take him really. We would probably get more out of him then we would out of youngster, unless we have someone hidden. That being said he'll probably get snapped up before we have the chance.
