Meanwhile rival clubs seem to have gone cold on Hawthorn defender Stephen Gilham, which means the Hawks will face a difficult decision on the uncontracted defender.

GWS and Port Adelaide had been linked but neither has been in recent contact with Hawthorn about a trade. St Kilda, looking for a key defender, has already passed on Gilham.

Getting Gysberts for a 2nd round pick would be a win! :thumbsu:

I'd be surprised if we are active for the remainder of the trade period to be honest, especially now Gilham looks like staying. There's been no concrete evidence of our interest in any player.

Gilhams knee is cooked and thats why we wont get anything for him.

3 years ago at Etihad against Carlton, Gilham did major structural damage after landing awkward and has never really recovered. We were told it was a 4 week injury and it turned into a 12-14 week injury:rolleyes:

The knee blow out he suffered against the Saints was the final straw for Gillo who was never quick at the best of times.

I would be extremely surprised if we got a pick inside 60 for Gilham who has pretty much struggled at Box Hill over the past 3 years.

I am sure other clubs will have noticed that we have been playing an undersized Schoey in front of him at times.

Are you making up things as you go....this year was the only real time he has spent at Box Hill.

If you have bigpond - take a look a the WB game. As well as asessing Lake you can see gilham played OK too. Shoey played 3/4 at CHF - broke even with lake whan on him

BTW has this been posted?

It appears likely Kurt Tippett won't become a Swan and he could even be deregistered as an AFL player after the AFL announced it would investigate his deal with Adelaide. We spoke to Michelangelo Rucci for the latest.

Tippett deregistered......Swans and Adelaide both lose a key forward. With the recruitment of Lake we are in front. Fingers crossed. ;)

Bit off topic
Does anyone know when the annual draft special comes out in the inside football mag ?

I hope we don't do any more trades, we landed the 'big fish' we wanted on day one and I can't see why discards from other clubs can add value to our list.

Well I would trade Gilham or a fringe player like that for a better draft pick.

If we get rid of Gilham then we are still going to need to bring in another defender to replace him.

The name of Richmond defender Jayden Post keeps cropping up in trade discussions. His contract at the Tigers is done but there's possibly a one-year deal for him at Punt Road if he doesn't find a new home.

Think our whole trading plan went pear-shaped after our Young compo was so bad.

Can't see anyone giving much for Gilham, so will be interesting to see if he stays or gets cut. I think he is done, so would rather fill the spot with a mature age pick that might blossom.

Been mentioned above, why trade for other teams duds? Rather keep Gilham than get Post

We already have - Brian Lake.

The other defender we lost was Murphy who was only a depth player as a mid defender behind Suckling, Stratton, Burgoyne and Birchall. There is no need to replace him with another defender as we have depth players of similar ability already.

We also lost Boumann who was our only other KPD back up. Be good to have someone on the list who can play back if needed.

I was just thinking more as a long future prospect at only 22yr Height: 195cm Weight: 93kg Position: Defender, Forward
Or Gillies which will be more likely our pick up, if we do trade Gilham to cover our tall defenders if one went down
Since Gilham turns 29 next year with a bad knee, which other posters have said!!!

The most that will happen out of this is Adelaide may be stripped of a draft selection if they went outside of the rules. Compared to Carlton's dealings and resultant punishments a few years back I would think that at most it is likely to be a 2nd round pick and probably next year as it is a bit late to implement this year.

Tippett may face a similar situation to Greg Williams going from Sydney to Carlton when he was suspended for a few games for draft tampering. This deal doesn't seem much different to Nathan Buckley signing for one year with Brisbane and a guarantee that he would be traded to Collingwood the next.

The end result is that Tippett will still get to Sydney but may get a little slap on the wrist. The AFL needs success in Sydney so they will get a more lenient result and at any rate the Swans haven't done anything wrong here.
