Melbourne are SO BAD at this. Just swapped Martin for picks 53 and 76 to Brisbane (or there abouts).
It's like watching Freo from a few years back.
It's madness isn't it?Martin was worth Brisbane's Pick 33 at least. Brisbane played hard ball because they knew Melbourne are easy to crack. Pick 73 is worth almost nothing, so its really just Martin for Pick 53, and when you consider that Trent Dennis-Lane was traded for Pick 46 today, that just shows how much Melbourne were ripped off. Martin has shown that he can play anywhere on the ground and is the perfect type for the second ruckman/key position player role. Fair enough dangling him out as trade bait but you have to get something for him.
It's madness isn't it?
I mean Martin has all the hallmarks of a big trade coup. Young enough to develop, shown a bit already, a few seasons into him, tall, talented and can play almost any postion.
Result? Two shitty picks.
I'd take Martin over Dawes, for example, any day of the week. But according to Melbourne Dawes is worth a pick in the first round whereas Martin is worth a third round pick and some loose change? It's nuts.
Sydney on the other hand realise that TDL is excess to their needs, as a depth player. Has been given a few chances at senior level and never really shown anything. Pick 47.

Why wouldn't we have just offered pick 28 for Jacobs? I guess there are some list management considerations but really if we thought he was our man, wouldn't we have grabbed him while we could? If Jacobs enters the draft I reckon we'll take him with our first pick if he's available.
I think we've traded well, but in terms of draft picks all we've done is go backwards. 21 -> 29 65 -> 68 66 -> 72.Cant beleive how many draft picks we've ended up with. Well done hawksfc!

Doubt he'll make it that far. Not sure whether North will want to use 15 on him. St Kilda were also keen on him and I reckon they'll use one of their 25/26 picks. If Jacobs enters the draft I reckon we'll take him with our first pick if he's available.
They knocked back 14?? That is outrageous! What were they expecting to get? I am calling shenanigans on that.I think Port knocked back 14 from North, so I doubt 28 would have got it done.
That said, if Jacobs now walks, they get doughnuts. I would think Port are hoping to convince him to re-sign.
At best he can go into the draft. I think if he is deregistered he has to go into the national draft where he can't stipulate terms but that is only a theory. I still think he will end up at Sydney but apparently the Lions are keen to draft him.So Tippett's not going to Sydney?
If he's deregistered then he can't play next year (at AFL level). More likely he will go into next years draft. At best he can go into the draft. Not surprised they knocked back 14, since it wasn't North's to begin with. I meant 15, sorry. But I agree with your sentiments. What did they expect? Perhaps they were hoping to re-sign given they don't have much talent left at Alberton. They knocked back 14?? That is outrageous! What were they expecting to get? I am calling shenanigans on that.
