I still wonder if Spangher could be a gorilla for us. 194cms and 95kgs . . . could he possibly take the 2nd key forward consistently? I'm thinking the likes of Chris Dawes or James Podsiadly.

I threw up in my mouth at the mere mention of Sherman. He's a bloody seagull - stands around waiting for others to win the hard ball then racks up the disposal account doing nothing but benefiting from others hard work.

On top of that he's a complete tool. A few people I knew in Brissy knew Lions players socially - and when Sherman played there I hear numerous stories of how hated Sherman was in the playing group. His attitude wouldn't fit our club and he's a spud these days as well as being a soft, lazy player.

Why do you think that?

Because we are one of three clubs that has shown interest in him, and seems like he might be sold on us going by the last few days where we came close. I think we played it this way to snare him as a FA.

Put it this way, his choice would be Dogs, Filth and us.

There is no reason to pick the other 2 other than $$$ and/or gametime.

He's from Tassie (where I'm from), and without going into specifics, let's just say I would not want him anywhere near Hawthorn. Don't care how good a player he could be. Just no.

If Jacobs enters the draft I reckon we'll take him with our first pick if he's available.
I reckon you're right. Port will be pissed.

I think Port knocked back 15 from North, so I doubt 28 would have got it done.

That said, if Jacobs now walks, they get doughnuts. I would think Port are hoping to convince him to re-sign.

North never offered 15, I think Port would have jumped at that. Port released a statement after the trade deadline saying North had offered pick 38+50odd which they rejected in the hope of convincing him to stay.

I still think we could pick up Gillies if he's available in the third round or something.

I would have thought now that they settled on Spangher as a depth player that Gillies would be surplus to needs. Why are people so interested in him? He had a fairly average year at the Geelong VFL team.

Gillies is 22, has played just 13 games in 4 years but should be coming into his prime. With Scarlett retiring he should be a key for the Geelong defence now but instead the Cats pick a 28 year old in Rivers and let Gillies go. That alone speaks volumes.

I would consider a rookie spot for him but no more than that. I am not overly excited about Spangher and even less so for Gillies. I would be disappointed if we ended up with both on the main list.

Toy would be another big gamble. From all reports he will never be able to play at AFL intensity due to his condition. An outstanding natural talent who won't be able to reach his potential.

Melbourne are SO BAD at this. Just swapped Martin for picks 53 and 76 to Brisbane (or there abouts).

It's like watching Freo from a few years back.
Yeah i really feel for their supporters -Dawes ,Byrnes:eek:,Rodan looking like the Carlton side of the early 2000's when they had to pick up all the dregs from every other club ,but then the blues had salary cap penalties as an excuse ,i just think the Melbourne recruiters are plain incompetant. Not our problem anyway,I just hope they don't go too badly.

He has been delisted. We can get him for nothing come November 1st if he wants to come to us.

Give him a chance at the Hawks. The footy gods will repay us. We chased him last year. The cats didn't want to release him. He gets delisted. Nice. Nothing better to see him in Hawks colours playing well against the cats. Can he play though?

You're probably right. Was just repeating what I saw on one of the news site chat rooms by the host. Not surprising they got it wrong.

I, too, would have thought 15 was enough. But hey, Dawes went for 18 and Wellingham 17.

On Gillies, I doubt we have room for him now. We have three spots open in the draft. We have Schneider and Wangers to be considered for upgrade. Likely only one of those, if at all. To consider Gillies, we would need to de-list someone else.

The question is, does Gillies represent a better proposition going forward than whoever that 'someone else' might be?

Same goes for anyone else who gets de-listed.

In - Lake, Spangher, Mr. Anderson.
Out - Gilham, Murphy, Young, Changa, Boumann, Bruce.

So no need to delist anyone?

Technically no but personally I would definitely think they will now. It just depends on how many and that may come down to how many rookies they will upgrade.

We currently have picks 29, 68 and 72 and I would think they would want to utilize them all as there is some depth to this draft. Hawthorn has always drafted at least 3 players regardless of how many trades or rookie elevations they did.

I hadn't expected either of Spangher or Anderson to be added so spots are tight. They are now very unlikely to keep a spot open for the PSD, not that they participated much in that recently (apart from Bruce last year).

There are too many rucks on our list however you look at it and I would think that Grimley will make way for a rookie - most likely Schneider to retain 3 picks. Other fringe players are Osborne, Ellis, Cheney, Bailey, Lowden, Duryea and Litherland but I would think the first 5 of those are safe and in reality probably all of them are.

I would also like to see McCauley elevated although they can retain him as a nominated rookie for another year which they may do now. With only 4 rookies for next year I think they will also retain Frank and possibly Boseley, but that would leave just one selection in the rookie draft. The result of that would also mean Pattison, Wanganeen and Langford would all be cut.

That would leave us with 3 draft picks, one rookie upgrade and one rookie draft selection.

Unless they find a specific needs player from those that are delisted free agents. Gillies and Toy now seem highly unlikely as they will both be delisted and Hawthorn could have gotten either for a late pick if they actually wanted them but chose Spangher instead.

Fixed.

Congenital heart block . . meaning a low resting and low maximum heart rate. Interesting. I wonder how this affects his cardiovascular health overall.

KPP's usually hit their prime at 25-28. He still has a lot of development to do just like Schoenmakers. His foot skills are very good on both feet and i think he would fit in well as a third tall type rather than a KPD. If we can make room for him I don't see why he couldn't come onto our list.
