I'd be happy to get Schofield back, but bloody oath, a first round draft pick for him! No thanks, hopefully the club doesn't do this current trade and opts for a more sensible trade.

On another note, isn't it strange that we dont have any South Australians at WC? Either West Australian or Victorian.

On the surface I do not see any value here. None are regulars in an ordinary team. All will be at their third Club!!!!

Lane - 25, 179cm, 84kg, 59 games. Ex Bulldogs
Betheras - 26, 183cm, 81kg, 52 games Ex Freo Rookie
Ukovic - 23, 183cm, 81kg, 35 games Ex Essendon

I am not sure if the number of games is prior to 2001 but you get the idea.

If we fill our list with rejects then the young kids wont get a game and hence develop.

Though we do need more skilful running players.

Not convinced this is a good trade at all.

But after saying that I read so much rubbish on the Net it is difficult to work out whats true and what is not.

GO EAGLES!
No, that doesn't seem to good at all, but you never know. Also, it might have been all we could get. I think he wanted to leave, and we may not have wanted to llose him for nothing, but, its not confirmed, so we'll wait and see.

Definitely disagree on Schofield being worth a first round pick. If we were going to go down that road, as in letting our early picks go, we'd be better to go ALL out and try and get a QUALITY midfielder (or two!).

Our problem is given our season, it is unrealistic to think that many 'big' names from teams that played finals this year, will be all that keen to come over. Obviously Farmer going to Freo is an exception to this - which I am thankful for - I think he's a little overrated and didn't really want him.

IMO, the best chance we had of a 'big name' was Gaspar - and only because he's from WA, family etc.

On the news they are saying that Essendon have offered Mecuri or Misiti for the #6 pick. Hawthorn have offered Croad. Makes things interesting don't it? Also said that Morrison is certain to be headed back to Victoria but to which club and what for?

i heard that too, i wonder if the clubs gonna go for one of those players...

I think Croads being offered for the #6 pick as well

does anyone think its worth it??

I'm not keen on picking up players who have already won a premiership unless they have outstanding character (meaning I would have liked Peter Bell). Mercuri is skilful, but has played a lot of footy, and Misiti I suspect would only be coming for the money. They are Essendon through and through and I don't think would play as well for us.

Croad is an interesting proposition. Part of me says he's not a footballer and he does stupid things all the time, but the Hawks fans mostly (not unanimous) believe he will develop into a star. So he might be worth no. 6 pick.

As for Schofield - good skills, good frontrunning player, used to be able to kick goals. Has played for a good club since leaving and probably learnt a lot. I never liked his attitude at the after-matches (a bit of a show-off and never seemed to take defeat as badly as others), but at 26 he's also a maybe for a no.22 pick or similar. And he's a midfielder, which is good. I still suspect Port of trying to offload a not hugely required player though.

As for 3 Collingwood hacks in exchange for Chad Morrison - no thanks. I don't mind reducing the salary cap by Chad's wages, but not to gain 3 highly dubious performers who take up a valuable place on the already too small list of 38. I also don't believe it - there's so much rumour and crap going around at the moment. We'll see what happens.

Croad (do we get Derm in that package) and Tarrant should definately be targets however I really hope the Eagles don't even consider giving away our first pick(s) for either of these players. Would they consider Morrison and a late draft pick?

I thought it was a mistake we got rid of Schofield (although Cummings did provide great service in 1999.) I think he is a better midfielder than Richard Taylor because he has a knack of finding the ball and being able to kick goals.

If we can/are going to get Sampi, then in hindsight it's a good thing that Rioli was signed this week with Essendon. There is no doubt that Ashley Sampi will turn out to be a similar forward pocket goal sneak like Rioli.

If I had to choose between McKernan and Bandy I would have to go with Bandy, because he can play good football, he just needs the right environment to play under. Although I think his career would really blossom if he went over east.

Misiti is pure class, but you would have to wonder if age is now against him from playing his best footy we saw in the mid-late 90s.

Misiti and Mercuri are no go's! They have Red & Black coursing through there veins and wont be passionate enough about playing for another club. Croad on the other hand i would think about. He could be a star but then so could the kid that we get with No.6 pick??

Hope Schofield stay put and i didnt mean that Taylor was wonderful or anything but he came over and i thought he tried really hard and put his heart into it. I like that. He aint no Cousins but he played ok.

Look at the Lions midfield, they all stream forward and kick goals, im just estimating here but im sure the Fab four must have got almost 100 goals between them in 2001. What did our midfield get....we must find some running midfielders who can kick goals.

Morrison could go in a straight swap for Barnard which i suppose would be ok?? Im a Morrison fan so im a bit sad at his imminent departure. First day of trades gone though and nothing has happened?

THis post is all over the place but im knackered so please forgive me :)

The burning question is:
Will Morrison be able to recover from his knee injury and be able to play at his best again, or has his career been ruined and is now going to be another injured excess baggage to the side?

Thats the risk the selectors have to take. Either show faith and keep him, or trade him now before it's too late and he's not worth as much.

and we can't really afford to take risks like that with our injuries over the past 2 seasons, where as some Vic Clubs can, and will just in case he does go back to his best, which we all know is very good.
Good luck to him, whatever happens, i hope he does get back to his best, and maybe if lucky even better.

Morrison for Barnard? I hope not! Barnard is versatile but he is getting old, he won't last another 4 seasons. Morrison may be injured but he's worth more than that. I think we all know he is going to be traded, the question is, what and who will we get in return?

I would have no problems swapping our #6 for Croad. He was originally a #3 pick, but has played around 80 games and has proved himself (and is still v.young).

The percentages that we get a better untried player with that pick is less than 50%.

The only problem is - the Eagles aren't aggressive when it comes to trading. We are probably more likely to pick up some hack like Ellis.

The only reason we would be letting Morrison go is for a proven quality player about the same age.

Barnard Shmarnard. He isn't as good as Morrison.

Paper this morning says #3 and #6 would only be tradeable for an exceptional player and no club wants to lose one, so apparently the Eagles will take no further part in the trading. They say they traded a lot last year and want to concentrate on youth this year.

Morrison+#22 for tarrant or croad

That would be a fantastic deal for us. Morrison is not a key position player and has had a knee recon, Tarrant and Croad are key position players who have no injury worries and are younger then Morrison. So asside from sentimental value, this swap would be a fantastic result for the eagles. Other then that, i don't think there will be too many new faces at the eagles next year.

I have also heard the Misiti rumours, and they are all crap. No way the eagles would give up a 1st rd pick for him, let alone throw morrison in. I say we should offer Misiti a good contract, then tell him to go into the pre-season draft where we could pick him up for free. Freo will pick up Farmer with their 1st pick, and we could tell St. Kilda to leave Misiti alone.

Morrison+#22 for tarrant or croad

I'd be happy with that. We need a young but experienced key position player.

It looks like the Eagles won't trade #6, which is probably good since the only players worth trading them for are on other club's untouchable lists.

Interesting to see the WC are going to hold onto their early draft picks for quality youngsters and not let them go for gap fillers.

Morrison + 22 for Croad is a good deal, and I hope to see the Eagles aggressive in the draft this year rather than the past few years. Schofield would not be a bad pick up to help in the midfield. I noted many here have said he was a fringe player with the WCE before, but that was under MM. Mayhaps Schofield is a bit more developed now, a new scene playing under a different coach of his old club may be worth the bait.....

Richie Taylor I know tried his guts out during the year and was involved in some good passages of play, but I thought bad luck followed the youngster during the year, and maybe with a different atmosphere around the club, his fortunes may change too. I like his will to win, it's infectious......

Forget the bomber boys, I agree with VOR and Jod on them, black and red through and through and a been there done that about them, may cause a difference in a will to win attitude..

By the way, love reading what you guys and gals write about..... its refreshing and welcoming to be part of the WCE boards.....

That's the reason I post here. The average maturity level on the official WC board is about 3 years old and its also a piece of crap to use. 99% of the time when you log onto the WC bigfooty boards, you know it will be constructive (ya bunch of in da house homies! :D )

in fact, it's so infectious that we won 5 games last season.
