Did anyone go to training today? I heard there was another time trial. If anyone went could they maybe post the results of the time trial as well as a review on how the session went and how certain players are looking (skills, size, speed ect.)?

i spoke with AWG and she said she didnt go

I went for a short while, unfortunately had to arrive late and leave early. A very few observations:

Harts was with the rehab group, but was running and kicking quite smoothly. Hammy can't be too bad. Tommi Johnston was also with the rehab group.

Sam Jacobs stands out in the crowd.. obviously very tall but still very raw, both in physical development and skills. I'd say Ants reserves for 2007.

Cloke was a bit lacking in his skills too. Let's be charitable for now and say it's because he started his pre-season a month late. I hope that's all it is.

As noted elsewhere, Russell has bulked up and looks the goods.

Murphy is just sensational. I think he will be one of the top five midfielders in the comp if he stays injury-free this year. I suspect after 2007 that people may be saying he would have gone #1 even in the 2006 'super draft'.

Bower spent quite a while contesting with Fev, marking and spoiling, and they were breaking even. Pretty good sign for Bower's KP prospects.

All through the session I had a sense that Lance was missing, although I didn't actually make a concerted effort to spot him (for those that haven't been to training - it's harder than you think to identify the guys when they're all in their training gear). But - as I was leaving Lance was in the carpark getting in his car, still in his training gear, and leaving too. The other boys were still on the track. Curious. Made me wonder if any decisions have been made about the captaincy.

I don't know if there was a time trial or not. I suspect there was because there was a lot less running than usual - mainly drills. Can try to answer any other specific questions, but bear in mind I wasn't there for long.

Jacobs to play in the Ants ressies for 07, interesting considering he played a number of games for WWT seniors in SANFL. Depends on the number of AFL listed players allowed in the seniors I suppose, or is this for Finals only?

Morning everyone :) No, i unfortunately didn't go to training yesterday, it was too rushed. If anyone has ever been late for a jetstar/qantas flight, and consequently missed it, you'll know why i was paranoid :)

Robbie Williams was good though :P

Wiggo and McLaren were in the rehab group, and Kouta was running laps with Harts. Don't think Kouta is injured, just easing back in to it. I think that the O'hAilpins and Walker were still with the rehab group too, but not 100% sure.. will check on Wednesday for you. Didn't really notice Saddo this time, but in previous sessions he has looked OK. He hasn't got a big frame for his height.. can't see him ever being more than a depth player even at full fitness.

I have watched both comp's(VFL AND SANFL) over the last couple of years and actually seen Jacobs play as I am a WWT fan living in Victoria and the SANFL is a couple of cogs above the VFL now days. Jacobs will begin in the Bullants Seniors and It wouldn't surprise me to see him get a run about mid year if we have an injury. I think he will prove a more than handy pick up. Not strong around the ground just yet but always seems to get this hand on the ball first.

no it's not. the vfl is stronger than both the sanfl and the wafl.

I wish. SANFL clubs have budgets in the order of $650k. VFL clubs are more around the $250k mark. I wish I could remember where I read that.

that might be true but the standard of the vfl is still better than the sanfl.
The bigger the club, the better the players they can pay to play for them.

However, VFL lists are supplemented by AFL-listed players to a far greater extent than in the SANFL or WAFL, so you have a point.

agree on your first point, plenty of good vfl listed (20-26 year olds) players have left the vfl because of the dollars in sa which has brought the vfl back to the field but i still think it just shades the sanfl.

Jetstar yes, Qantas you would have been ok.
Anyway, you can just look forward to seeing the Blues in the NAB Cup against Essendon in February - how many sleeps is it now AWG?
