Being another glorious morning, I decided to get up early and make my way to Visy Park for todays training session. Again, the players ran out about 8:10am, and most of them ran off for a warm up lap, which included alot of stretching and run throughs.
I was pleased to notice that the rehab group had shrunk somewhat, with only Warnock, Kreuzer, Hampson, Wiggins, Thornton, R.O'Keefe, Jamison and Austin in there today. They did quite a few handballing drills whilst the main group did their warm ups.
What I am really liking about these sessions, is that it's just not all the players doing one drill at a time. Players will get into their groups, and there were different drills going on all over the ground. Again, the focus was on high energy, highly skilled drills, with any turnovers resulting in push ups for the player that caused the turnover, and the ball going to the "other colored team".
One player that really caught my eye today was Andrew Walker. He looks as fit as ever, and when alot of other players had their hands on their hips trying to suck in some air, he was barely even breaking a sweat. What was also encouraging was his kicking skills. I watched him pretty closely when he had the ball, and he didn't miss a target.
Another guy that I thought that trained well was Chris Yarran. He'd have to be one of the best kicks of a footy I have ever seen. Kicking the ball lace out into the F50 when they were doing some end-to-end skills really had me shaking my head in amazement. If he can get his body and mind right in 2010, he could be frightening.
Another player that stood out (again) was Brock McLean. We all know how skillful he is, but today I noticed that he was getting over to quite a few of the younger players, and encouraging them, even if it was just a pat on the back. If you didn't know he'd only just come over from Melbourne, you'd swear he'd been at the club for years.
Finally, Jarrad Waite didn't train at all, although this was as a result of having an arthriscope during the year, just to clean the knee out with a bit of scar tissue.
