Happened past Freo Oval today (I drive past every day) but today I thought I'd wander into the Team Shop for a new hat seeing my daughter has adopted my one from seasons past. After 5 mins browsing, came back out and the boys were starting to make their way out onto the ground, so thought I'd hang around and watch for a bit.
They were working in small groups - about 10 started doing sprints with a guy I assumed to be Tarbox. Another group all headed off in their cars and came back about an hour later with towels draped over them, so I guessed they must have been off doing laps at a pool somewhere.
Then there was Murphy - working on his own with CC and Kelly O'D. Set shots from all angles, picking up off the ground and running in to goal, snaps across both sides, mark and play on. It went for about 45 minutes, just him and the coach(es). Then he went off and out came Polly and Medders for more of the same... I watched for about 15 mins but it was at this point that I had to head off for half an hour, so missed the rest of Polly's part, but after I had completed my "business", I headed back down again for another squiz.
When I came back, the swimmers were all out doing their sprint session with Tarbox. Matt Carr was now the one working with CC (and K O'D) - same stuff as Murph, and I thought, hmmm how interesting! Pav was doing sprints on his own, with Waterman timing him. He sprinted from end-to end-to end-to end-to end, then from end to halfway over and over and over, then jogged a couple of times around the perimeter, then started again. Must have gone up and back 30 times while I was watching, pretty much at full pace the whole time.
Then Matt Carr headed off, Woodsy came out, and although I didn't stay after that ("I'll just stay for 15 mins" had turned into the better of the morning...
), it certainly appeared that he and Pav - who by now had stopped all the running up and down stuff - were about to start working with CC and K O'D as the others had before them.
Also saw Mainy there, although the only thing of note he did was tell the fire-truck that was parked in front of the channel 7 wagon that it was blocking his view.
