Happened past Freo Oval today (I drive past every day) but today I thought I'd wander into the Team Shop for a new hat seeing my daughter has adopted my one from seasons past. After 5 mins browsing, came back out and the boys were starting to make their way out onto the ground, so thought I'd hang around and watch for a bit.

They were working in small groups - about 10 started doing sprints with a guy I assumed to be Tarbox. Another group all headed off in their cars and came back about an hour later with towels draped over them, so I guessed they must have been off doing laps at a pool somewhere.

Then there was Murphy - working on his own with CC and Kelly O'D. Set shots from all angles, picking up off the ground and running in to goal, snaps across both sides, mark and play on. It went for about 45 minutes, just him and the coach(es). Then he went off and out came Polly and Medders for more of the same... I watched for about 15 mins but it was at this point that I had to head off for half an hour, so missed the rest of Polly's part, but after I had completed my "business", I headed back down again for another squiz.

When I came back, the swimmers were all out doing their sprint session with Tarbox. Matt Carr was now the one working with CC (and K O'D) - same stuff as Murph, and I thought, hmmm how interesting! Pav was doing sprints on his own, with Waterman timing him. He sprinted from end-to end-to end-to end-to end, then from end to halfway over and over and over, then jogged a couple of times around the perimeter, then started again. Must have gone up and back 30 times while I was watching, pretty much at full pace the whole time.

Then Matt Carr headed off, Woodsy came out, and although I didn't stay after that ("I'll just stay for 15 mins" had turned into the better of the morning... :o ), it certainly appeared that he and Pav - who by now had stopped all the running up and down stuff - were about to start working with CC and K O'D as the others had before them.

Also saw Mainy there, although the only thing of note he did was tell the fire-truck that was parked in front of the channel 7 wagon that it was blocking his view.

Didn't think that they could make hats that big. ;)

Sometimes you are funny.

Most times you are not. This is one of those times.

It doesn't even make sense.
haha that made me laugh out loud.

good to see we have a few options up forward. Its the biggest suprise trying to guess how they will line up. With the rotations though the main line up may not matter

Thanks IP !

Perhaps you could plan your day abit better next time. That way you could spend more time there and provide us with more info. :D

BTW, maybe take a camera down there so we could view some of it too - mind you a video would be handy too. ;)

We seem to have a lot of forward options now, I wonder how wet toast are gonna cover them all on Friday, especially with so much possible supply from our new midfield set up.

I haven't really noticed but do the eagles have that much of a backline?? Or have they simply relied on their midfield to keep it from heading down that way?

they do. main one would be glass, he is a classy FB so he could probally negate our FF.

not sure about the reset of there Back line. Im sure one of the eagle supporters that patrol this site will fill you in

or a bored dockers supporter will fill you in instead.

sorry funkyfreo, but i decided to do this before i saw your post ;)

Darren Glass - very underrated fullback and should further improve, if he got the job on an inexperienced forward such as murphy or polak, he'd probably beat him.

Drew Banfield - often gets the job on farmer and usually succeeds in riling him up. fairly good defender but has had mixed success as a small backman (ala hayden) playing the majority of his career in the midfield.

Kasey Green - has been known to take medhurst and do reasonably well. But not a very highly rated defender and from memory didn't even get a game in the last derby despite the talk of medhursts perfect matchup.

Quinten Leech - makeshift CHB who has been earmarked for FF in the media. performed workman like with trent carroll in the pathetic excuse that was a backline in the early stages of 2004 (the main reason they performed so poorly at the beginning of the year imo). Can do the job but i'd expect pav to tear him a new one.

Mark Nicoski - has shown enough as an 'offensive' backman but wouldnt worry our forwards for his defensive capabilities at this early stage.

David Wirrpunda - flashy offensively but fairly loose as a backman, farmer killed him and i'd expect more of the same if he were to get the job again.

Adam Hunter - fairly reliable and workman like, can do a job but often has to fight out of his range seeing WCE don't have a hell of alot of key backmen.

i can't see their back line defeating our forward setup though.

They wont have to if they can control the ball out of the middle. As with last year this is their main strength. Good opportunity to test our upgraded midfield against one of the best midfields. If we can beat them or even just match them there we should have the upper hand around the rest of the ground.

if M Carr play as a forward, i will rip my membership up and support West perth.
I am also thinking of dropping by the freo shop, does anyone know what time they are open on saturdays

I see the name "Streaker" as the last poster in this thread, and I wonder... "what highly intelligent little morsel has he shared with us this time?"

And that was it. You have outdone yourself and for that I am sure we are all grateful for your presence on our board.
