As another poster has already discussed.....Just projecting the same sentiment that CFC's midfield was terrible last year....CFC's midfield got flogged running into finals losing six of their last ten games and against top sides won one game against Adelaide a team of note who's midfield is shite too.

It will be interesting to see what Fly does to fix it, Fly pretty much has the same cattle as last year.

Thank you to all posters training updates, much appreciated!

I think Beau, HH, Perryman will have significantly more midfield minutes.

If swadling and Pringles are good enough, I would throw them into the midfield as well, after they do few stints on the half forward or half back line. Same goes for Angus and steele.

So that's about 7 new names who can stake a permanent midfield spot if they are good enough.

A fit Jordy in the midfield every now & again won't hurt either..

Maybe this year HDM goes to the next level?

I agree, Fly has quite a few more options.

Agree with all of it except tew and Allan.
Tew will struggle to break into our crowded half back line if everyone are healthy.

Allan can't afford to just be a link up player, he needs to show significant improvement in his ball winning and ball disposal ability.

For the first time he will have competition in swadling, Pringles , Angus and steele for his spot . They all have good ball winning and disposal traits , which if they start to display it early will definitely see Allan go down the pecking order.
Allan was looking really good toward the end of the season and was woefully unlucky to get dropped; I think it was only because De Goey was returning IIRC. We should look at that month later in the season with great optimism.

Does it look like Sullivan is progressing in his rehab or is he still looking proppy Jen2310?
He's been in and out of rehab.
Like a few others, does a fair bit of the drills but no match play senarios. So progressing. But knee is heavily strapped.

That's good to hear, I just hope it doesn't become a case of being cautious then eventually requiring surgery...

While your point is valid. All have very little if any midfield experience at this level. We may go backwards in the midfield before we go forward. It may be a price we have to pay for the long game. I think we will get some more improvement from Long. Nick will have his usual influence albeit carrying the tag with him. I have given up thinking De Goey will be a full time mid. I think it every year, but through injury or being required forward, it doesn't happen.

Absolutely, I was merely disagreeing with the previous posters statement about us not having more midfielder options this year.

This will be a learning year for our new midfielders, especially our young ones and the next generation coming through.

I personally see this year as a 50/50 or 60/40 split between veteran midfield setup and younger midfield setups.

I'm be going:

McReery and De Goey playing forward/midfield -- alternating.
Both Daicos boys and Long as permanent fixtures. Perryman to move to the centre -- we have enough half backs.
Steele and Sidebottom on the wings with Allan.

Just caught this morning's training. Was a good session, albeit the first hour was mainly running and basic skills drills.

The last part was 9v9 like match sim on a narrow corridor. Was glad I stayed for this, as some key things stood out. Will try to cover below…

Prindable - v impressive session from this kid. Think he will be a cracking draft selection, as he did everything well. Clean around stoppage, found open space at ease, covered the ground well, made good decisions, and v clean disposal. Genuine midfielder. Still reminds me of Licca / Anthony Stevens, as his movement / involvement / midfield presence is v impressive for such a young player. Would bet my house on him featuring this year, as he’s already ahead of HDM an Ed A on exposed form. Genuine footballer.

West - took some nice grabs and found open space as the leading forward quite a few times. Again, in a lot of the action, and keeps going, which translates to why he is able to kick bags in the 2’s. Still developing obviously, but am bullish on his abilities. Has to feature this year, as he looks a permanent fixture in a lot of the match sim, already.

Will Hayes - def looks bigger in the legs and played well as a wing / high forward option.

Sully - kid has got smarts and skills. Shame he isn’t taller, but is not giving up on a place in the team. In a lot of the action…

Buller - showed some nice pace on a lead and converted. Hopefully stands out more in future sessions, as he’s blending into the crowd a little atm.

Shooter - lively, v quick and in a lot of transition stuff. Think he’s in for a big year, as looks v comfortable in the overall setup now. Fit.

Jordy - nice to see him back in the match sim stuff. Beautiful kick, running hard and demanding the ball. It’s all upstairs for jordy I believe, so here’s hoping he’s set for a ripper.

Smit - is in ripping shape. Big lad. Kicking is iffy, which could make him a liability down back, but is v hard to out mark.

Swadling - continues to impress with his pace and desire. Nice skills too. Looks v determined, and also demands the ball. Hasn’t quite got the build for seniors yet, but has all the tools and frame to be a good player.

Zac Mac - sticky hands, took some nice overhead marks. Long way off body wise, but was nice to see his skills on display.

Lippa - had a great session. Great running and link up play. Shame he isn’t quicker, but wasn’t slow either, so maybe has put some work into losing a couple of pounds and being a bit more explosive. Probably BOG.

Allan - was caught a few times sadly. Didn’t stand out. Is up against it, without fitting into a specific position.

Long - looking good, extracting, and even showing some explosiveness from stoppage. What you’d expect to see from Ed, but doesn’t come. Kicking also pretty decent. One of our great hopes in the midfield, and looks a fit and established part of the core now.

Josh - looking good. Such a good kick, and also showing his explosiveness when required. Would love to see him in the midfield, with Houston to slot back into QB duties…

Jiath - liked what I saw from Tew. Running reasonably well. Was in a bit down back. Putting in without being spectacular.

Moore left early. Beau a no show, as was Reef.

Thanks for the high-quality, detailed update.

Prindable sounds like a terrific acquisition. We really need to unearth a few who can come in and quickly find their feet, to replace the likes of Pendles and Sidey. I'm hoping Harrison and Parker can too.

Great to hear that Shooter and DeGoey are looking so sharp, as I doubt Elliott can replicate his heroics of last season and we'll need others to share the load - especially if Bobby Hill is now out of the frame.

I'm not sure how much scoreboard impact we can expect from Membrey and McStay this year, so here's hoping Buller and West can both take big steps forward.

(Did you see what happened to Moore?)

Darcy just slowed to a walk in the running drills, before going off. so I suspect some soft tissue type issue.

And yes agree re mids. Think we’ll have to target a free agent in the off season, as Pendles is def on his last legs, and the star factor amongst the group is waning.

Loving these updates, Smit especially. If he can turn into a genuine lock down defender then that bridges a huge gap for us.

If he's not a great kick then that's just something we have to work around i.e. IQ, Houston, Parket etc. to look for the handball.
