It was originally "champing at the bit:" but a lot of people didn't know the word "champing", so it has changed over time - but both are used pretty commonly. "chomping at the bit" doesn't make as much sense if you know the difference between champing and chomping/

It's gone the way of "augurs well for the future" which has now probably more commonly said as "all goes well for the future."
The use of chomping is a pet hate of mine, to all intensive purposes anyway.

Shut up, chomp chump champ.

Champing is really frantic tiny bites and grinding of the teeth - it's what horses do when they're excited and busting to do something.

Chomping is big noisy bites when we're eating.

Chumping is what PB just did by correcting something that was correct.
I think he just executed a Double Down Chumping.

The moral of the story is they're both fine - standard usage.
The moral 9f The story is that it was originally champ but it didn't make sense so they just went with chomp. Mr.Ed bought it to lite I think, as he was chomping on some hay

Mr Ed was fed lots of peanut butter - that's what got him licking his chompers to make him like he was talking.

To anyone who believed Mr. Ed could talk, sorry for the spoiler

I think we can both agree that champ was a chump for chomping a bite out of Annabelle's word choice.

Jesus you lot. Cultural appropriation is theft. Leave our bits alone.

Ok, that sounds kind of awkward...

My horses dont chomp or champ bits. I have learned riding bitless and trained all my horses so I only need a soft rope halter and reins. I can ride Rangi without even that, he responds to words and body movements. I like the feeling of connection that comes from it, like you are truly working as a team.

As for some of you...

In my experience, horses are poor listeners.

Have you thought its not that horses are bad listeners, just they all think you are boring? Try talking about something other than golf...

Perhaps when we’re in possession of all the facts we can make informed comment. Currently, none of us are.
It would be nice to know why this important player is missing from the training track so often. All we can do is note his absence and the regularity of his absence since late last year.

I thought the baby was born last week? How is training for a couple of hours a day (or even every second day) stopping him from being with his partner and baby?
I'd prefer not to attempt to answer because that very clearly crosses a parasocial line that I have zero interest in crossing. It's really none of our business as far as that goes. McRae said there'd be news so we should just wait to see what that is. Hopefully it's positive.

Just like Sherriff Will Teasle, the little champ drew first blood with a flawed attempt at correction.

And then executed what is very rarely seen, a Double Down Chumping.

The treatment was correct.

Can you really blame anyone for taking the opportunity to have a crack given his normal behaviour on this forum though?
