Gerrard going through the club through his career is very different to the Yank owners, owning it. He lived in Liverpool I'm sure through his career I'm sure, he would understand the place better than most.

I'm happy to be proven wrong but how often is John Henry actually at the games etc? I don't think they've ever seen it as much more than a cash cow, no matter what they try and say to the contrary. The owners can run the business without needing to feel close to the club.

FSG are all about extracting the maximum capital gain for the minimal possible investment. They have never used their own capital for transfers. Their capital injections have been for infrastructure projects which to their credit have been successful. But these have not been converted to equity. They are all low interest or interest free loans which the club is paying them back for or will be paid out in the event of a full sale. Yes, he views it as a cash cow. Now currently in talks to sell 10% of the club for 400m which incidentally is more than what he paid for the club in 2010. There was talk of a full sale last year but that never materialised. He does pop in for matches every now and then but I see that as more of an attempt to show he "cares". He was probably the main driving force behind the ESL proposal which was show down pretty quickly by the fan base (similar to Utd fanbase reaction).

In short he's a typical hedge fund venture capitalist a-hole using the club's name and image for FSG's capital gain benefit. The sooner we are rid of them the better.

This will be a touch unpopular but I'm genuinely surprised at some of the ex Liverpool employees (Gerrard/Firmino) moving to the Saudi league.

For everything Liverpool stands for as a club, the Saudi's are polar opposite.
Gerrard is a gypsy come good. He's slowly building his property empire in retirement. He probably thinks he can fast track it with Saudi money.

I'll be honest, it is disappointing to see the likes of Fowler, Gerrard and Bobby head over to Saudi Arabia but then in today's world, money talks. It's as simple as that. I was talking about it with a friend yesterday and I said, I cant really judge them because if I had that opportunity to earn that kinda money, I'd probably take it too. That money can set up your family for generations.

The other thing is that wealthy people do anything to stay wealthy. IMO what wealthy people fear the most is not being wealthy anymore and in Gerrards case he didnt have a job. No money was coming in. So you take that money every time.

It's just the world we live in IMO. Still disappointing though.

Bobby is a bit different I guess as his career is at the point of the last hurrah, so a final few seasons in the MLS or Turkey or back home in Brazil, places where all footballers go to end their careers. But now with the whole Saudi Arabia thing, I understand taking that money for your retirement tour.

But for Fowler and Gerrard, managing over there wont help their management careers at all. Even if they go really well it still wont help cos nobody cares about the Saudi league. So it's definitely a cash grab but as I said, that's just the state of the world nowadays.

I read that Inter Miami have landed Sergio Busquets and also want Suarez.
Mofo's are trying to rebuild the old Barca lineup. Neymar must be soon.

I really don't see how it's wank, Liverpool and socialism go hand in hand. That's just facts.

It's certainly true now. But Liverpool was Conservative from the mid-18th century until the early 1970s. Here's an article about it if you are interested.

Thatcherism put the final nail in the conservatives being welcome in Merseyside.

Two different situations. Gerrard has won a Scottish Premiership, coached a Premier League club, and was touted as a future Liverpool manager. He appears to have given up, at least in the short term, on the ambition to coach in a high status league.

Fowler doesn't have any coaching credibility at a high level. But he's pretty canny at putting money in his pocket.

Oh yeah for sure, Fowler knows how to make a buck and he's there purely for the money.

Gerrard yeah, it's a weird one, it's like he's put up the white flag on any serious management career.

Lavia... Where does he go? Liverpool seem in the box seat ATM..
James Pearce reporting that 50mil is too much for us, and we also have to sell a mid to make it happen. Thiago has rejected the Saudi's for now.
