any name other than 'gary ablett' and i'd agree with you. but a player like that means too much to the club - it'd be heartbreaking seeing him play anywhere eles

Agreed pinion...but if he does go I think PortBrilliance has a point. You can never "cover" a player like GAJ, and to see him wearing the GC colours would be sickening.....(in fact the GC colours are just plain sickening anyway!!).....but so often when these things happen, the club who loses their star often comes out of it ok in the end. (e.g Colbert )

We will see what happens, but I think Geelong will do ok either way.

I think Geelong's in a win/win (not with boak though)

Just say Ablett leaves, you will get at least two first rounders. Something like pick 1-3 and pick 4-6. So if he does go, with Selwood and a few other kids coming through, Geelong could stay near the top of the AFL for many more years to come. tbh, I'd let Gaz go and get some good young kids coming into Geelong so your team does stay at the top for the next 3-5 years.

That said, Boak isnt going anywhere.

Not with the current compensation rules. We'd be lucky to get one top 5 pick.

This is the first board I've read without any ridiculous suggestions like 'Ryan Gamble and pick 20', so congratulations on that. :thumbsu:

Ha...no...generally we have our heads screwed on the right way here, I'd like to think. Also, when we trade, we tend to be fairly fair with it (see Mumford, Drum etc). In the completely hypothetical idea that we pursued this deal (and as I said it won't happen) the snag would be whether you can trade future picks and so forth, because picks in this draft won't be worth much. But we'd offer something fair if we had something fair to offer, no doubt.

Isn't Free Agency coming in this year or is that next?

2012. Wouldn't matter anyway as Boak is still young (same age as Selwood I think). Players don't qualify for FA until they are 26.

If Gaz goes and we get 2 first round draft picks for use in 2013 then we are going to be pretty powerful around 2019 (assuming we get the picks right)

Because that will mean 3 first round draft picks in 2013 plus new kids to replace Ling, Ottens, Milburn, Mooney, Wojo, SJ, Scarlett, Rooke, etc.
Plus anyone on our list who doesn't make it.

I don't mean top 2 powerful, just not bottoming out

So you guys would get picks in 2013 draft when GC and WS arent raping the draft?

imo thats gold, would rather picks in 2013 then right now

Well we presume so. The AFL haven't made a decision on the proposal we submitted (to change the compensation system) yet, but I'm hoping that'll be what they decide. All clubs who lose players should get their compensation picks in the non GC/GWS years.
