Just heard the news report from channel nine about Cloke on SEN.

Talk about blowing up a story  Apparently it's another distraction we don't need after Kraks injury  How do some of these reporters get their jobs. They definitely wanna see us go down like last year. Man I hate the media.

No one has signed anyone, it is all heads of agreement stuff.
So therefore in your scenario, we lose one of Pendles & Cloke. So with the heads of agreement, we will at least get compensated for one of them breaking that.

So worse case scenario we lose Pendles OR Cloke & we get AFL compensation of 2 first round draft picks PLUS cash from backing out of a heads of agreement.

Well said Daniel and correct these P***** in the media will stop at nothing to destabilize the club they are not content with 2 knee reco,s and numerous other small injuries and they are still worried about us.

Last season we Buckley v MM and Thomas, swan and Pendlebury were all leaving and none of them has,I am F****** sure they make these things up as they go along.
At the end of the season we could lose one of Cloke,Pendles or Reid I don,t know and I defy anyone to be able to be able to know for sure unless they are the players themselves, there is just so much rumour and innuendo that you don,t know what to believe or who to believe.

I think we will be a strong contender no matter what others think we do have the cattle and whatever happens at the end of the season happens but all the bullshit stories are designed for a purpose so bring on the season proper and F*** the lot of them.

Apologies for the language but they make you feel like that.

Yes we get two picks and possibly Delidio through Free Agency.

There is a reason he hasn't signed.

All anyone can sign at the mo is a heads of agreement.

Which makes it unlikely given he's just signed with a new management team. Why not just hand the commission to his dad?

I have no fear of losing Travis, you've already told us Pendles has signed.

I think you'll find Deledio is waiting to see how competitive the Tigers are this year. I shitty year finishing outside the 8, may see him seek greener pastures. We wont get Deledio through FA. Richmond has more coin then us to spare, even if when we lose Pendles.

People have to realise that once Free Agency comes in, on average 4 to 5 players will be changing from each Club; every single season.

Look at the NRL model. The NFL model. The American Basketball model.

Then the rules on Free Agency will be easier and you will see major names changes teams each year.

It is the future.

Embrace it.

Jeez mate you really should let this go. It's starting to sound like you actually want to lose one of these guys. Poor form.

Absolutely don't and never said that.

Pendlebury is one of the best 4 players to play for the Club in 50 years.

Rose, Carman, Buckley and Pendlebury.

Cloke is only going to get better and is my kids favourite player.

He is the difference maker.

I would love all our Pies family to stay together.

But Free Agency will come. Look at the New England Patriots and how they turn over Wide Receivers. Look at how many Melbourne Storm players who now play for different teams. This is the direction the AFL is going.

This is why I think this is a positive thing. If cloke had already signed with GWS it makes no sense to change management now.

My business partners kids play at Park Orchards Junior Football club, he bumped into Julie Cloke at a shop the other day, asked how Travis and Cam were going as he knows her, She claimed " Travis won't be at Collingwood next year"

What would be worse is if we loose Trav to a Victorian Club ( Essendon, Carlton, Richmond ) and then Pendles to GWS, not being a cynic but this is a possibilty.

Well, it could and probably will happen.

The only thing I can take out of it is that Geelong are just as good if not better without the best player in the comp playing for them.

One door shuts, another opens etc...

We go on the mainboard and we hear bullshit we come our board and we hear
more bullshit really cannot understand Pie fans stating these things as gospel it shits me to tears.

It may happen at the end of the season and if does then they can here and gloat and tell us they were right all along but really we get enough shit on the mainboard without coming on OUR board and having this shoved down our throats from our (fans).

I really cannot understand what sort of great joy there is to be gained from upsetting people now it will be bad enough if and when these things do occur
without shit stirring now.

Here here Ipswich, When I come on to a board all i want to hear is what recruits are flying on the track that will lead us to glory. First year players or second year players, that 90% of us haven't seen, that haven't played a game.

Then we should just back in everything Eddie says because as a supporter i have no mind of my own. Even when he talks absolute BOLLOCKS we should defend him to the hilt, as i am a Pie supporter.

Phark, once again I'm bored.........................

"There was that other situation; we looked at the pros and cons and decided to stay at Collingwood," David Cloke said.

"It worked well. They won a flag.

"Now his contract is up again, we'll have a look at the pros and cons again."

Cloke Sr said his son enjoyed Collingwood.

"I think every player would like to stay where they are and we see that 99 per cent of all players do stay," he said. "All Travis wants to do is play."

Meanwhile, Cloke's marketing and sponsorship will be run by management agency RCM Sport.

"They will look after the marketing side of things and I will be doing the football-related things, his contract and all that," David Cloke said.

Doesn't sound like anything different. Also makes it sound like Cloke is happy to stay at the Pies.

Not sure I sure I read the same article as others but I thought that the father was still managing his contract and the other group was managing the marketing side.

However I think that there is no real benefit in speculating who we may lose especially as we can't do anything but continue to support our team. Football is a business as well as a sport.

I would be upset if we lost any of our top players but in time they will be replaced by others. (Who would have thought a few years ago we would have picked up a player like Ball?)I look forward to who those others will be, Elliot, Ugle, Paine, Witts etc

Heard on radio this morning that there hasn't been an offer from GWS.

Which most of us knew anyway since the HS was trying to create a story out of thin air.

It's funny that from the SECOND all this GC/GWS shit started, I've been saying all along Pendlebury was the one one I was concerned about losing.

2 years later, and here we are. Pendlebury is still the one I'm concerned about losing.

God damn it.

I am pretty sure that Cloke will stay a Pie !

Ralph Carr is his joint manager, which also means his father David Cloke still has a say.

You see where the pies could've been smarter,Cloke originally asked for a three year deal we gave him 2,If we had accomodated Clokey for three years,no one could've touched him and when we had to renew his contract we would have negotiated a deal that would have been fair for the club and player instead now we have too pay a big price to keep him.

And 2 years on, and GWS and the Suns have had a crack at just about every big name we have, and now, it's down to one, and he just happens to be our future captain. As I've been saying all along, we will not lose a big name.:D

Pendles is actually the least likely to go anywhere, from the sources I have, he has already started negotiations with the club, although both parties are a fair way off from agreeing to a new deal.

I'd expect Cloke and Pendles to have at least in principle agreed to new terms with the club by mid year.

I'm more concerned about our other out of contract players, like Reid, O'Brien, Sidebottom etc, they aren't superstars, but GWS knows they can't get Cloke or Pendles, they're just softening us up so they can get one of the second tier All Australian types we have.

If we go by reports that it is estimated Cloke is currently on roughly $400K per year, if by all accounts he is now worth $650K+ then this will put some considerable pressure on our salary cap.

What I think it is safe to assume though is that Geoff Walsh has created a future salary plan for the list. If this was me I would have something like a spreadsheet with a list of all players and then prioritised based on their importance to the team. Cloke would certainly be a priority A. The following is what I would do if I was Geoff Walsh.

Each column would include the player's total payments for the year and run for the length of the contract. When a player is coming out of contract then the club would need to input an estimated increase/decrease range in payments based both on market rate and perceived club value.

What I would hope is that the club does have some room in the cap however the room in the cap has been pencilled in for our priority A players hence the club being less willing to pay overs for our lesser priority players such as Macaffer last season. During 2011 the club must have realised the increased value of Cloke and adjusted this future increase in payment to compensate.

This future plan though would only be a guide. Where the difficulties would surface would be if players believe that their worth is more than what the club has estimated which would put pressure on the rest of the playing list. If a priority A player is wanting more money then the club would have to either look at creative payments including front and back loading or would mean a reduction in the amounts provisioned for priority B and Cs etc.

The question that would need to be asked would be if someone like a Cloke wanted considerably more than what had been forecasted. The club would have to weigh up what is more important. One priority A player or potentially two priority Bs etc.

The best way for us to retain the list would be to be as transparent as possible with the players so they they understand that if they demand more than is forecasted they are only hurting their mates. I believe this is why Dawes signed a contract at less than what he would warrant elsewhere and why Geelong kept such a quality list for a long time. Also the potential for success and earnings after football will come into it.

With free agency kicking off though I think that there will be some pressure on our list moving forward and I think it is unlikely that we won't lose anyone. I just hope that the core list of priority A players are content with what the club can offer them and not opt for the inflated figures of desperate and emerging clubs.

No doubt Bloben, Walshy would have a spreadsheet of that nature.

Didak, our previous highest paid player with his current deal, is on vets allowance next year, so is Swanny. Jolly 4 year deal of reported $400k per year finishes end of 2013.

Travis qualifies for vets allowance in 2014 season. I would think his next contract will be in the vicinity of $700/$800k per year.

There is some cash there. We just have to spend it wisely.

Supporters need to stop listening to the BS that there mates tell them. I bumped into a players GF, sister, mum etc. They know you're a Pie supporter. What better way to gee you up???

I just don't feel we'll lose a big name. I expect GWS to flush out a Wellingham type whose on around $300k p.a. and they can offer him $600k p.a. Not a huge amount for them and allows them to poach some more players but out of our league.
