^Quite apt.

Would need to give up way too much for him, pay him way too much.

Next to no chance, I would think.

It would be great to have him, any side would want him, but I can't see it happening.

I don't want him at the Dogs. Good player, but I think Jones and Cordy will develop into great players in the future.

I hate how Hutchy was talking for us. "They owe it to the supporters to go for Cloke".

Well i dont think so. Long term it would kill us. Short term it would make us an average team. We would need a lot more than Cloke to return to the top 4 next year. Not a very strategic move.

I would be disappointed if we haven't explored this, as we have plenty of salary cap room to offer Travis a substantial financial incentive to leave the Westpac Centre.

Let us embrace Free Agency - it is time to be proactive for once.

In ordinary times, you can make a play for a big name, but with GWS about, the price you have to pay is too high. Ward and Skully are not worth the money they are getting for example. In fact no player is worth that money.

Better to keep the powder dry for times when the market is not skewed by the AFL backed GWS and GC. Someone will end up paying too much for Cloke, either GWS, GC or Collingwood.

Short term we need to stick with playing the kids, and look for a someone not quite on the A list.

What a boring comment from Hutchy. No insight whatsoever - oh, the Bulldogs are struggling this year. Oh, I know the solution - just throw in a big name forward and they'll be fine.

Cloke struggled against Lake on the weekend when given poor service from his midfield. In other words, he would struggle every week if he played for us.

We need a Key Forward that will be in his prime in three or four years, not now. Jones, Hill, Cordy and Maybe Redpath if he makes it all fit that demographic. If we get Cloke now, next season he will be 26 at the start of the season and pushing 30, by the time we are ready for another tilt. Same old same old.

Would rather let the kids we have already have a chance to play and grow together, and make a play for any of the GWS and GCS players that may find themselves on the outer, homesick or
whatever.

Yeah we need a key forward, but as I said, we would be giving too much up for Cloke. IMO he is overrated for the player he is.

Even if we could compete with GWS in dollar terms (LOL), our midfield is in desperate need of a class injection for the future that only two early picks in 2012 draft can provide.

I would not pay newar that for Cloke!

Lake made him look like a rookie again on the weekend (except for maybe 1 occassion when he outbodies and marked) but to pay close to 1million per year (which is what he would be after) no thanks!

Give me dangerfield anyday of the week for a $600k price tag :) Jones will be a great forward in teh coming years and would rather develope our team and have room in teh salary cap incase we do need to get somebody in 2-3 years time when we are hopefully in a good position to win a flag.

Patton any1? lol

What would it say for ALL of our upcoming potential forwards??? Panos, Redpath, Hill, Cordy, Jones, Skinner, Grant & maybe Roughhead.

"Don't bother lads, we don't think any of you are a chance of becoming the players we want, we're not willing to invest any more time into you."

Cloke is over-rated because he plays for The Filth and anyone who pays massive dollars for him is foolish. We certainly shouldn't think it is a good idea for us to outbid Collingwood for his services.

Cloke is well performed without being a superstar and was soundly beaten by Lake on Friday. Cloke is not by any means the best key forward in the competition and he never will be. Cloke's goalkicking record apart from last season was very average indeed and he is no goalkicking machine. In fact, last year was the only time that Cloke has topped Collingwood's goalkicking, having been bested in previous years by Didak, Anthony, Medhurst, Rocca and Tarrant.

Cloke has only kicked more than 40 goals in a season once (69 goals in 2011) and is no certainty to kick 40 this season despite being fed by Collingwoods' midfield. Cloke would struggle as Jones has if he was subjected to our pitiful offensive delivery.

Cloke's game averages: 1.5 goals per game (Liam Jones 1.0); 14 disposals (Liam Jones 10); tackles 1.9 (Liam Jones 1.8).

Sure Cloke is an instant upgrade on Jones today, but we must remember that Cloke played 25 games last season - the same number Jones had played in his entire AFL career. In the long run Jones may well end up a much better player than Cloke, who next year will be in his 9th season and well into the later half of his career.

Our opportunity to challenge for a flag is a few years away yet - let someone else make Travis Cloke the highest paid key forward in the game - let someone else massively over-pay for the over-rated.

Could probably get 2 reasonable forwards for the price he is wanting

One could possibly be his current partner Chris Dawes

Dawes is s***!

But yes I agree with the idea that we want somebody who will peak within a few years. Cordy, and Jones are the ideal guys in my opinion.

You would have to be deranged to not at least approach him, although I don’t think he is going anywhere, depending on the GWS deal. Anything over $1.2 million a year would be near impossible to turn down. Still, I would be interested to see just how much coin we do have and what sort of offer we could table to a player of that calibre.

The strangest statement Hutchy said was on Liam Jones himself. Remarked that he would be a B grader at best! Jones has done pretty well so far and I think with another 30 or so games under his belt he will become a jet. He could do with some help, though. He is as advanced as KPP’s get at his age/experience.

Seriously, anyone saying Cloke is sh$t has no fu#king idea........ He is the best....BEST....contested mark in the competition bar none, if he was wearing Red White and Blue on Friday night instead of Black and White, we win the game. At 26 (next year) he has a heap of good years left in him and lets face it a million dollars is peanuts (a couple of thousand members, which btw we're losing hand over fist).... How good would Jones be next to him? Throw in Cordy and boy oh boy.... we'd stretch the best back lines in the comp... Add another skilled outside mid and I'm buying finals tickets...........

Look, I'm not saying he is or isn't the answer but we'd be stupid if we aren't asking the question....... We missed out on getting Barry Hall to us a year earlier because we couldn't find the money and I have no doubt it cost us a premiership in 2009, lets not make the same mistake again.......

I think this is a great move, David has been hawking him around at 800,000 to 1 million, I believe we would be right in the mix at 800,000 as he would stay in Melbourne, at 26 he fits the bill perfectly, blokes like him don't grow on trees, people who see my posts on here know how I support the kids, but he is a must, Go your hardest doggies, SIGN HIM.

How are people saying no this...

He's the best CHF in the competition. I'm not saying it will happen and I strongly, strongly doubt it will but those saying 'no way I'm happy with what we have'....
