Been thinking about this over the last couple of weeks and I'd be happy to see Travis go elsewhere or stay at the Pies and focus on adding some real depth by continuing on with the target recruiting that we have done in recent years.

And to allow Griffiths to become the dominant CHF in the comp.

Let's just worry about him staying on the park and getting a few kicks first and foremost.

if we get cloke it is just going to stuff up the development of post
That's funny.

Personally I'd keep Griffiths developing as a CHB ala Harry Taylor type and bring Cloke into the side to work alongside Riewoldt & Vickery.
Griffiths can play as a swingman if required and may eventually go forward but is not ready to play at the power forward yet.
Chaplin will remove any need for Posty.

I know you and I have argued this previously, but putting aside the Cloke issue I think recent weeks have highlighted we have a bigger concern up forward.

Griffiths will most likely return to CHF, and if he doesn't, we will have Astbury, Post, Rance, and Griffiths all competing for the CHB spot (assuming Chappy gets FB).

On the other hand, up forward we are light for real CHF options (Griff, Elton, ........ *sigh* ...... McGuane), but even worse for second rucks (Vickery, Derickx). I don't think Browne is good enough in front of the sticks, and DX is done like a roast chook IMO. We need this role to help relieve Maric properly, and provide a third target much more IMO than a good CHF. Don't get me wrong, we need this too, but at least we have internal options for this role, we have none for the second ruck right now. This is underlined by the fact the club eventually see Vickery becoming a FT ruck, which then leaves us with nada.

If we are going to spend $800k+ as we would need to in order to secure Cloke, I'd rather spend it getting someone who can play this role. Maric has been a big part of the reason for our improvement this year, and we cannot run him into the ground again in 2013

Whatever happened to quasi-sardonic, tongue in cheek, unbridled excitement? This board has seriously lost a lot of it's sense of humour of late.

Sorry, just think he's very overrated for all the comments I see on him for what he's delivered. It's hard to tell who's being serious or not.

Griffiths is the ultimate on paper champion but haven't seen much substance yet.

On topic, hope we're going hard for Cloke.

Cloke's an overrated one-trick pony and a even worse set shot than Richo was. Recruiting him will be a disaster for the club. He'll make our forward line worse not better and we'll probably end up having an even worse midfield delivering it to them thanks to all the undeserved dosh we threw at him forcing someone like Martin out. I'd rather save the ammo for when someone like Cameron wants to come home from the Greater Western Shithole then pay over the odds for some poor man's Richo mercenary ******* like Cloke.

But hey lets all cheer his contested marking that he converts in into 1.4 (3 out of bounds) every week while we miss out on the next Carey. A lotta money to pay for a decoy for Jack. Jesus Harold Christ, I'd rather keep McGoof, at least he won't break the bank.

cameron is looking fantastic in his first year:thumbsu:

starting to think we dont need cloke.. when we have other talls on the list and we haven't seen our forward line with a fully fit vickery this year.... it is a lot of money... I do however think he is copping a lot of criticism for his from this year which i believe is just being affected by this situation and dawes' poor form.

I don't say these things lightly but Cameron's the next Wayne Carey IMO. Seriously.:thumbsu:

Big difference between then and than, buddy. Unless you actually meant that you want to buy Cameron THEN Cloke. Or if you spoke proper English you would've said you'd rather Cameron THAN Cloke.

As they say, you'd rather help your Uncle Jack off a horse, rather than help your uncle jack off a horse

Cameron was pre-listed as a 17yr old and played for GWS last year in the reserves comp and comes out of contract at the end of this year. He's available now.

I'd hate to see the trade we would have to make to pull that one off though

Indeed.

He may actually be on a 3 year deal that ends next year. Pretty sure most of the 17year olds were on 2 year deals though – same as the standard contract for new draftees?

So do you have anything relevant to add to the discussion apart from being a smart alec and pointing out typos?

Where there's a will there's a way.

I heard it was next year. Could be wrong though.

Salary cap concessions will end at some point. IMO the other 16 clubs have a duty to pick the eyes out of both expansion clubs lest the comp. becomes a farce dominated by two manufactured super teams no one follows and leaves the majority of supporters disillusioned and disinterested. We got the TV money, now clip their wings.

Probably. Though interesting that Shiel and Bugg who were taken as 17yr olds with Cameron re-signed earlier in the year and Cameron put his contact talks off.
Why would he re-sign now when he is a chance to win the Rising Star(can't recall if he got rubbed out eariler) and that would add a little bit of value to the bottom line. Even if he isn't eligible for the award staying out of contract and waiting to see who comes calling next year has the same effect.

Watched the Game pies v Swans over weekend, Cloke kicks a goal to put pies back in front with a few minutes left and the players didn't really get around him after it , then just his deamanour singing the song in the rooms etc, Looks like he knows he won't be there next year.
