Not a great start to 2020. When will we ever get a decent run?

It could be worse. Imagine if this was someone like Grundy.

Everybody passed on Marlion Pickett in last years ND too.
Recruiting youth or mature age rookies is by its nature hit and miss. But if you don’t have a go you’ll never ever know. It’s a numbers game too, the more you give an opportunity to, the more chance you have of finding a gem.
I would have liked the club to have been a little more ruthless with their older players at the end of 2019. It’s not too late though, they can still tell Dunn thanks but no thanks.
I think his age had a little bit to with it also. But everyone knew Pickett was being overlooked for reasons other than his football ability. Poor example.
Will be our finals specialist come September
3 games in September. Will be lucky to play 3 games all year.
He'll now start the season underdone and in the VFL, while his spot will go to younger kids who give the team a lot more. It'd take another injury crisis for him to even get a look in now.
The better question is why don't we ever get a decent run?

I’ll take that.

It'll mean we have another passenger to carry in a final, not sure why anyone would want that. He's been finished for close to 2 years now
Yes, I have to agree. Will probably struggle to get back in. Hopefully his rehab goes well and he is able to keep the pressure on the younger players to perform.
Also, please Footy Gods gives us a break from these bloody injuries!
A shoulder reconstruction on day 2 of 2020 is not a great start.Maybe I’m not keeping up in the off-season .... but what injuries?
Beams
Greenwood
Varcoe ( who should be right to go early in the year)
Are the only notable absences I can think of
But when one door closes another often closes too. Then more doors close . So one or two doors opening generally doesn't make up for the shortfall in senior players. Sometimes our closed doors appear semi-locked, as with Langdon whose future seems very much in doubt. Varcoe is one of those players of whom we seem to have so many, with a susceptibility to longer term injury. Not a good sign early in the season. Will be able to run during most of his recovery so might still be valuable depth in the second half of the season.
When one door closes, another opens... means we will see more youth, which excites me
