IMO he is turning into a very good player for us. He's pressure and attack at the ball and his silky smooth skills reminds me of Andrew McLeod each time i watch us play. Has anyone else being reminded of the great A. McLeod when he swoops onto the ball?

I'm still sitting on the fence. He has some games when he plays very well but others when he plays probably below average. If he can work on his consistency then he will be extremely valuable in years to come.

I thought his 'frontal pressure' on Saturday was what has been missing of late. The Doggies were harassed and chased by Travis persistently when taking the ball out of our forward line and he set the example for the other forwards.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Would like to see him kick a few more goals though. Would nicely round his efforts.:D

That is without a doubt his key asset. His ability to apply pressure in the forward 50.

His tackling pressure was first class on the weekend. As has been said; if he can round out his consistency and maybe kick a few more goal, he'll be irreplaceable.

I think he looked a little tired in the few weeks leading up to his shoulder injury. The enforced rest came at the right time for him as his game was a real positive for the team. His ability to run out the game, particularly as he has spent more time in the midfield this year has been one of his weaker points; his tackling, quick hands and remarkable ball skills are a standout.

Until this year, I was skeptical about his future in the club. But he's really developed and blossomed this year, he seems to have much more confidence in his own ability.

He's now starting to repay the club's faith in his abilities with his improved performances. For all the reasons outlined above, I think he's a valuable team member, and I'm sure he'll become even more attacking in the future.

Varcoe has been terrific. Defo has good skills and great defensive pressure but i dont think he is an A Mcleod yet. Reminds me more of A Davey!

Love him. The guy I now watch. And I didnt think he was that great on saturday. If enyone watches it again just look for him floating past an opponent with the ball. Yes he may have had a job to do and didn't give a stuff about the guy with the pill, but it showed a lack of intensity to me. Remember, I love him.

And I probably score him hashly on that as I love the tenacity he has in running down opponents.

And yes he did a lot of that too

Does he have left foot?

Is probably the only bloke on our list close to GAjr in that natural flair but lacks the ability to constantly impact play. If he can rack up more numbers he will be even better , if he starts kicking goals on the run ,watch out.
SJ is injured, not dead! ;)

I want him at West Coast. His physical pressure around the contest is great and so are his skills. Just needs more confidence and needs to find more of the ball and he will be a very good player imo.

If I was a younger supporter, I'd wear # 5 on my guernsey. He is our X factor and we are a much more attractive and dangerous team with him playing

I think his pace & being able to break through plus for him this year. His decision making has improved which reflects in his confidence.
With his pace I wouldn't mind seeing him rather than Chappy rotating through the middle in bursts looking forward.
His set shot needs improving for him to kick more goals.

he was running around like a headless chook on saturday. he's a form player though, he doesnt just slot back into the side with impact like chappy for example. his pressure on the opposition ball carrier is always good though.

his disposal wasn't great saturday either and lately hitting targets and goals has been a problem but i bet he will turn that around.

i would be interested to see him on a half back flank maybe in NAB cup next year. His speed and skill would possibly allow him to potentially replace a wojcinski type player.

Your name is apt, you must be doodling , his disposal is better than most

perhaps i did, some people have said hogan didnt play well against the doggies and i disagree with that too. i agree varcoe is often a good user of the ball, im only commenting on how ive percieved his form in the last 3 or so games he's played. perhaps im being harsh and would change my opinion if i watched the replay, i just didn't think he did anything flash with the pill when i was at the game.

Fair enough. I actually think he is one of, if not the best user of the ball that we have, he just doesnt get hold of it nearly enough.

I too am going to go against popular opinion here and agree with you on both counts. Hogan played well on the weekend, especially considering it was his first final. Travis wasn't at his best, but you can understand he would be a little out of touch, I'm sure his disposal will be spot on next week.

I think he's a good player, but there's still a few things I'd like to see him improve at.

Firstly, his better than average pace enables him to exert decent defensive pressure in the forward line by simply running after the opposition, however he still lacks front on strength to stop an opponent side stepping him or fending him off. Most of his tackles in fact are run-downs when the opponent is unaware that he is approaching. I'm still not sure whether this weakness is founded in a lack of natural strength, or an unwillingness to get his torso truly close to an opponent's when trying to execute a tackle. Either way it can be frustrating.

All in all however, I shouldn't be complaining. His skills are excellent by both hand and foot, he rarely fumbles, he's creative, and he has come on this year in terms of getting a decent amount of the pill, though he could still improve his consistency in this area.
