Why are people wanting him de-listed, i thought he people were writing how good he was playing CHB and not as a ruckman. Seen as Harley and Milburn are past it we should keep him on the list and see if a full pre-season with him playing as a defender and not a ruckman standing at 198 cm his easily big enough to cover then position.
P.s Bomber doesn't always de-list players that you'd expect see Tenace, D.Johnson, Henry playfair should of left at the end of 2006.

One of the rucks will go. I read in the paper the other day that D.Simpson was re-signed. That leaves West at the bottom of the pile. Only Blake being moved on for salary cap relief would save him now. And people saying either West or Mumford could play at CHB are kidding themselves, neither are agile enough to do so. Imagine them on Riewoldt or Pavlich or Brown and if they are playing CHB at AFL level that is who they will be facing :o

Why didn't they play him in the seniors when they dropped Blake? They chose to play just the one ruck instead. Not a good sign.

They also had their chances to give him a trial at CHB when either Scarlett or Taylor weren't playing. They didn't. Again, not a good sign.

I don't have anything against him but I do think he's a little short for a ruckman (at least for one without an exceptional leap) and not agile enough for a defender. But reading between the lines, his time at Geelong is over. He might get opportunities elsewhere.

I didn't know that you Knew how agile west was. FWIW Mumford chases and tackles Midfielders, Mumfords got speed.

Why would they re-sign Simpson?

I can't think of any senior listed big player that we have delisted after only the two years on the list, if you take someone like that you have to be prepared to give them time. West has had what 4 or 5 years now and the upside assessed properly by the club. Right decision or not? I don't know I just saw it reported in an article about our salary cap pressure and they threw up the possibility of trading Blake with Mumford waiting in the wings and they mentioned D.Simpson as a project player that had re-signed.

When Dawson was recruited didn't the club say he was a project player, much like Mackie was years ago ?
If West goes it gives more time in the ruck in the VFL for Dawson. At times this year he's been 3rd ruck [Mumford/Blake,West,Dawson].

You won't find a bigger West Wagoner than myself, but even I can see the writing on the wall for him. Could find AFL success elsewhere.

If Simpson has re-signed then he is as good as gone. You would like to see him get more of a chance than just 7 games in 2 seasons, but as soon as Mumford was getting a regular gig the writing was on the wall for him.

I prefer West to either Mumford or Blake, he is more mobile then Blake and better at taps then Mumford, his middle of the road. Simpson is young and promising but im not sure is he'll ever become anything more than an average back up. I propose trade Blake to Port Adelaide/Essendon, keep west and mumford as a ruck combination for when Ottens retires. They will both be in there prime at that stage.

big Dawson Simpson aka peter street MK2 has re singed and blake, mummy and westy are all out of contact.l don't think people are waiting for west to be delisted but he has been on the list for 4 years for not many games.he is little under sized ruckman really should of been made to play KKP and ruck as his second string.something like jason blake or cam cloke really if cam cloke is playing at AFL level westy should do alright.

I disagree....I actually thought he was quite agile at CHB in the two's.

Besides, what I don't get, is if the problem is salary cap vis a vis it relating to the ruckmen, why would you not move on the one on the most $$$ (Blake). By getting rid of West we won't do much for the cap and we'll get nothing in return.

More to the point, why the heck would Simpson be re-signed?
The words "project player" are not an excuse to reward non perfmorance with contracts.

I'm talking about the agility to take AFL-standard key forwards like Brown, Riewoldt, Fevola, etc.

A lot of people don't like Dawson Simpson! Why?

I saw him play v the Carlton reserves (v Cloke in the ruck) at Skilled and I was impressed. This was one game where he got plenty of game time. He easily won in the ruck and was much more mobile than I expected after reading bigfooty comments. He won taps, was involved in second efforts and moved easily around the ground.

I am pleased he has been offered another two years.

He also was playing third fiddle in some games (e.g final) which doesn't help development and because the kids don't do heavy preseasons his engine is just starting the build. At 207cm or something he is (in my humble opinion) a real good prospect and I can see why he was chosen with our second pick.

I'm with you, up until only a month ago I was in the other camp, but I had a good look at him in the final against Box Hill and thought that he showing a bit and worth persisting with.

It will be slow with him, unless there is a major crisis, I don't expect to see him in the ones at all next season, but the year after he should start to appear regularly.

I'm happy to give big blokes several years to come along, look at Tomahawk. And in my view it's easier to play as a forward than as a ruckman. I've not taken particular note but gee it's hard to fault our recruitment/delistings/etc in recent years.

How long has he been at the club?
Don't think he's any kid, that's for sure. Can't see any reasons to keep the guy, he looks the goods, but is frustrating.
Surely he's just taking up space on our list.

I agree mummy is better than West, however I'd take West over Dawson Simpson any day of the week.

Fair point although you can't judge West in relation to that question until he's been given some matches in the backline at AFL level, which he hasn't.
