As regards the OP - I know that some Association Football clubs have those trophies, but it's not really a fair competition over there, as there's no reall salary cap and if you've got more money than other clubs you can buy better players than other clubs, which results in effectively buying premierships..

And isn't it funny how Carlon flogs think they're the only AFL club on 16 premierships?

Agree, association football premierships mean very little for most clubs, as in most instances they've bought their way to success.

I find it funny that Carlton flogs think their 16 premierships are legitimate not to mention so many of them happening before colour TV. The Scum's flags are equally dubious, and Collingwood's almost all happened pre-WWII.

You'd have to really look at the time the league became national, when the interstaters entered in 1987.

By that measure, the tally is as follows:

Hawthorn - 4
West Coke - 3
Foldroy - 3
Carltank - 2
Filth - 2
Scum - 2
Camry Crows - 2
Norf - 2
Handbaggers - 2
MyATM Power - 1
Bloods - 1

All others are entirely irrelevant.

Seems to be a logjam around the number 2, a couple of impressive clubs with 3, and one standout with 4.

Good thread, would read again.

You can subtract 2 of the hawks flags as the league became national in 1990.

And what changed other than the name?

Same teams, same league. I love it how Collingwood fans try to use the name change as a cut-off point, with no substance underlying.

Theres plenty of underlying substance.

And it was a new league in 1990, hence the name change.

Care to list any? It would seem there's as much underlying susbtance as Leon Davis' career.

And it was a new league in 1990, hence the name change.

What was new, other than the change from VFL to AFL?

Unless you want to argue that it became national when the Crows entered in 91? Or Freo? Or Port? :o

You're not very intelligent are you.

You have won 2 AFL premierships, your old VFL premierships mean diddley squat.

So you haven't listed any reasons why 1990 was in any way a different competition to 1987, yet you're calling me unintelligent? :o

well, the league was renamed for a start, and it officially became a national comp.

What went before it was the VFL.

New comp, new start, new name.

lol @ flogs trying to discount Carlton flags.

I don't mind though, it's the way of the natural pecking order...those minnows at the bottom will always try and bring the greatest ones down.

talk all you like, the picture I posted on page 1 shows 16 shiny premiership cups which belong to us forever :) keep dreaming about reaching our elite status.
