I don't know about you guys, but one thing that is really jacking me off is the constant criticism by Chris McD. I have heard him criticise us for not throwing the world at Ottens to get him to Adelaide. But you can bet if we did and it went pear shaped, as knowing Ottens it undoubtedly would, Mc D would then be whingeing that we should not have traded away high draft picks.
He also had a whinge about the AFC changeing sponsorship.
Then to top it off, last night I heard him yet again critising us for recruiting interstate players over local lads. He even went us far as to say, "if the interstate lad is better than the local, you should still take the local".

I don't believe the AFC should be above criticism but McD seems to go overboard. Has he lost the plot - thoughts???

I think he has a hidden agenda.

He wants a job at AFC badly. Remember John Reid used to do the same thing then they said ok if you can do a better job here's one. AND HE DID :D

How did he do a better job otehr than gettng Malcolm BLight?

Reidy is responsible as anyone for our current plight. How he continues to avioid scrutiny by the Club and in the media I do not know.

I think he just likes hearing himself talk and wants to be in the headlines, I have no time for him now, I appluad his charity work and such but thats about it, time to get over it.

Same here (though i wouldn't go as far as you in my choice of toiletries ;) ?

Bone was my fav player right from the Bay days up until 94 when he took out the big knife,

Since then he comes across as a very bitter man with a giant chip on his shoulder & it puzzles me on how much he is in the media as from the articles that i have read in his SM column there is not much substance just a lot of rhetoric.

Been saying this about McD for a while now, but sadly we validate his agenda by speaking about it on here. He needs to stir the pot to continue to get a wage, and what better way to get a wage than by "Being an Ex Captain of the Crows" speaking "HONESTLY" about the AFC?!?! His comments about "Cornes being hauled over the coals by the AFC for speaking out" in the SM, where from a man clutching at straws to maintain an Identity in the media.

I'm no McDermott fan - I think he has a huge chip on the shoulder - but he was making a reasonable point about rookie listing interstate players. Very few of these guys ever play and he was making a point about the risks such as homesickness etc associated with taking the interstate player. The part he misses is just how high the club rate the rookies they have taken on. I'm sure the club has taken the risks into account when making their decision.

Ahhh Fergus, but after the senior draft he also had a whinge about this too.

I like McDermott. Unlike many others, I don't think he has a grudge against the Crows, or a hidden agenda.

I think he genuinely loves the Crows and like Cornes, criticises when he thinks it's necessary simply because he cares (and it's his job) and wishes to see the Crows have success.

There have been problems with the Crows for several seasons so there is plenty to criticise. And many keen fans such as ourselves have all had criticisms, so McDermott isn't alone.

McDermott does seem to be a glass half empty kind of guy, a pessimist, realist, whatever you want to call it, when it comes to footy. So he's not going to sugarcoat any issues that he thinks are a problem.

Having said all that, I don't agree with a lot of his comments. The ones mentioned above especially. But those are his opinions and he has been pretty consistent with them all along. For example, he was keen for us to chase Ottens long before he was on offer. And he never really criticised the move of getting Carey, because he agreed with it at the time, so to say he would do a turn around on Ottens if he came and failed it a bit unfair I think.

Bone is paid to make statements like he does, it gets people fired up and therefore more publicity for his show/articles etc.

I think he is mostly wrong in this case and can't wait for Nye to prove him wrong.

That being said if the AFC has to rely on it's rookie picks to greatly improve it's list then we are in a lot of trouble.

Good point Springy

McDermott is a whiney little tool. He has not - and will never get over 1996. He has graduated from the "Graham Cornes School of Taking the Alternate Opinion just for the point of an Arguement" with flying colours. It's a pity that 5AA persist with replacing KG and Corney with Bone Head and that other tool David Whiney with their amatuer hour program.
They annoy me so much I listen to music and not the radio on the way home...and I'll contiinue to do so until summers over..... :o :p

As a non-crows' supporter I've noticed his apparent bitterness towards AFC. Has he ever applied for an off field role and been rejected? I know he needs to make a name for himself as a "journo" but some of it's just utter cr** IMO. I've lost total respect for that man since he started pretending to be a journalist. (yes, I DID have some before)

Nice to have validation from an unbiased source as it confirms what I thought. McDermott is not the brightest of guys, was an ordinary coach and has had no real wins since the Crows sacked him. I think he blames the club for his fall for grace.

He is right up there with my least favourite media people:
1. Chris Dittmar-cannot hide his blind disdain for the Crows and his unadulterated love for Port. Unprofessional and a joke.

2. KG- Fake passion and modesty come in droves with this sick unit.

3. Bone- see above

5AA doesn't get much of a run in my car!!

Funny thing is that I don't have much time for Ditts. I think he's a "try hard".

As a Port supporter I hate Max Stevens with a passion as well as Steven Trigg (Eddie in 'drag'!)

Let's face it though, the unbiased people in SA media would be few and far between. Goes with the turf I'm afraid. McD's bias against the crows always gets me though....Cornsey seems far more constructive, like he really has the clubs' best interest at heart, rather than just "bignoting" himself...

Just thought I'd better add a "positive" I really enjoy Rowey-calls it like he sees it regardless of who it is....never thought I'd respect a Norwood man! And I like Russell Ebert because he's brutally honest about Port, regardless of "who" it is incl Brett. Doubt that he does Crows games but I think he's a great "special comments" man for Port games. Doesn't hold back....

One man's meat is another man's poison.

I love the station. Pilko and Conlon on the morning with Blakey to get me started, and the sports show from 4 to 7 pm to catch all the latest in sport. the interviews are great as well - you don't get them anywhere else here in SA.

Just on the 3 you mentioned.

Dittmar - you have described him perfectly. A biased bad-mouthing fool and a tool.

KG - like a panting dog when he sucks up to people. Genuine with his passion for the Crows. full of fake passion for Port.

Bone - Mr Chip on his shoulder should grow up - blatantly anti-Crows IMO and loves to say that things associated with them are no good.

I reckon that you're easily one of the most sensible posters on this board and always enjoy your posts. the above post is nearly an example of that.

BUT (once again, there's always a but :D)

Steven Rowe a positive?? WTF???

Fkwit is the word I usually associate with him!! :D

A few thoughts, many good posts here

Stephen Rowe is the worst commentator on local radio, thay call it the most passionate call on radio, I call it the most idiotic call on radio. They equate shouting with passion, try yelling in your loved one's ear and say it's passion.

KG is a blatant suckhole with his fake laugh.

Cornes is trying too hard to attain the intellectual highground pose but does a good job on both PAFC and The Crows.

Dittmar is too biased

Mc Dermott great footballer lousy commentator.

;) It sells newspapers, sparks these type of discussions, and keeps McD well paid.

I don't suppose Gary Window still calls the games

And isn't football the poorer for it!

"It's still a good game here at Prospect even though it finished 1/2 an hour ago"
"He's kicked a great goal but it's a point."
"It's getting dark here at Woodville but its still very light."

Sorry people the media types will NEVER please ALL people ALL the time.

We each have our favourites. I hate KG, total idiot. Bone is a stirrer. Cornes is a poser. Dittmar is another idiot and Rowe is on another planet.

Why do these types think they have to yell and carryon to get a point across is beyond me?

I hate "The Footy Show" as well. Tired as all get out and needs to be scrapped or new faces for it.
