Firstly, I was watching Channel 9 this afternoon with AFL Sunday and Eddie McGuire at 12pm. All I could think of was Channel 7's Gameday that they used to have on Sunday before the games started. Nine's program is an exact copy of that - cross to the ground, pre-recorded interviews etc.

Secondly, the commentary on all channels is shocking. Last night Michael Christian and Stephen Quartermain's effort was pathetic on Ch 10. Talk about sleep material. So much for the ABC being referred to as "The Tobin Brothers".

On Nine, Dennis Cometti is starting to irritate me...that voice gets to you after a while I think. Especially on Friday night footy...I don't think he's the man for the job . Cometti goes well paired with a certain type of commentator - Eddie's not it.

Finally, James Brayshaw is a good enough commentator. But please don't use "inch perfect". Make your own lines up, don't change someone elses!

Channel 10...... Absolute shockers

Called Glen Jackovich......Allen Jakovich
Subtitled Tony Micale as Tony McHale during half time interview.
Informative as a wet blanket
Boring commentry, their attempt to sound lively is a monotone drone......

Bring back 7 with Commetti........Commetti is the only one who really is the voice of football......Special Bruce is missed too.....

Dennis and Kevin Bartlett did the freo Richmond game today and worked well together.

What really got up my goat was the advert channel 9 perth inserted after virtually every goal. All to often they would go to an advert when the commentator was halfway through a sentance and come back when they were talking about something else. It really cut into the flow of the game and the commentary.

That would probably be because it was a Foxtel production. They put the package together with their commentators, graphics, cameras etc. Nine only show it to Perth.

And having watched some of that game on Fox Footy here in Victoria, I'd say that the reason for all the ads is because after every goal the commentators say "I hope you're enjoying this live coverage on Fox Footy". Maybe they need to work it out a bit better - make sure commentators pause after a goal so Nine can put ads in for Perth people AND not refer to Fox Footy all the time after goals are kicked so they can stay with the coverage after a goal sometimes.

No ads on Fox Footy as they were the ones producing the coverage for that game and 9 had no control over that game

Coverage of 9 games they also talk through for Fox Footy when the 9 breaks are on, so you hear more of Dermie gibbering away on the replay on Fox Footy than when 9 actually show it themselves

They must have been showing it differently for you guys than in NSW, there wasn't a single ad I can remember during play (for once.)

The camera angles are shocking.
Too many close-ups so you lose perspective.
Replays of goals always taken from a different angle so you can't ever see the original shot again unless you've taped the game. The shot from beside the goals is a shocker. Ground level angles only work if the camera is directly behind the kicker, which it seldom is.
They cut to replays of marks and frees, meanwhile a goal is scored or a screamer taken, no replay available of that!
The camera lingers on the bench and the warm- ups while play is in progress.
Players are shown jogging, or standing with hands on hips, while play is in progress.
Who is directing this mess? Someone who has never seen AFL games.

Bring back bruce and even Dipper....you have the club president in the commentary box and the daughter interviewing the coach..geez...pathetic. What next Buck's mom giving the stats?

I've said before that I taped this seasons game where the vision was far away and blurry over a tape from last season. When fastforwarding way too far we got to a bit where the camerawork was so clear in following the play that we got immediately involved......and then realised (d'oh) it was last year's game
:p

The worst commentator or special comments man would have to be Chris McDermott.

The bias calling of "The Adelaide Football Club" every 30 seconds in the match against the crows 2 weeks ago was disgraceful.

When the swans made a fightback in the second half..you could not get a positive word out of this man. Heck if when the crows scored you could hear the tone of emotion in his voice.

Then get rid of Eddie - not Cometti

Most Crows fans would say that he has gone bitter on the Club and looks for any excuse to bag them

although he has been better lately and can see how it would be annoying for opposition fans

The golden rule should be - don't have ex players coaches presidents commentating on games that the club is involved in, unless they have been away for a significant time eg twenty years.

Saves all the bias.
