- Chicago Bulls, Aussie Swim Team,
'Twas the night before the Grand Final, when all through the house
The nerves were a jangling, excitement did mount;
The streamers and balloons were hung up with care,
In hopes that our team would win it with flair;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While fathers and friends drank frothies instead;
And footy marathon watching would start off with zeal,
Until sleep took us all to the land of the G,
When the ball was bounced there arose such a clammer,
I'd spring from my seat to see the rucks hammer.
Away with the ball our midfielders like a flash,
Tore open the packs with such skill and such dash.
Our Center Half Foward would take the ball in his hands,
And turn and look for a mate near the stands,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a forward making space on a gut busting lead,
This amazing player , so lively and quick,
Throws it on his boot and it sails between the big sticks.
The players converged to celebrate that moment,
And the crowd it roars feeling important.;
Then our defenders so brave and so strong,
Who tackle and fight the whole day long,
So up to the center they rebound with glee,
and take on opponents like they were fleas.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard the siren sound.
and with fists stretched high our players did bound.
My mind it was spinning, could it be true?,
That another Premiership our club has accrued?
Could this be the Cup that has alluded our team?,
Is this the moment where I scream and scream!;
For years I have waited for our star to arise,
And now I am here I can't believe my eyes.
I watch our Captain hold the Cup high!
And we dance and cheer and scream to the sky!
Streamers rain down like glittering gold,
I will remember this day, even when old;
But time does not freeze so that I may enjoy it,
And so my eyes open to another screaming chorus ;
Of children running and yelling and playing,
It was just a dream I find myself saying.
Today is the day that my team is a playing,
And I laughed to myself that such folly should move me ;
And that even though I must act so mature,
My child like devotion to my team does consume me;
And now I wait for 2.30 to arrive,
Feeling each minute as it ticks by,
Today is the day when our team will be tested,
When all of the past demons will be rested;
Yes my friend this is no lie,
Grandfinal Day belongs to the Pies,
Come on, the mighty Black & white!!
