Most people within the club seemed to think we'd cover pretty well for the absence of Hall. After two games, how do we seem to be coping?

Its hard to say. Our forward line looked so good when he was in except for the 1st game. Maybe its got more to do with how the opposition are going.

Despite the injuries I thought the roos backline was the reason they were in the game at all- Firrito, Lower and Scott Thompson all played really well.

Might have something to do with how well we're going upfield (and lack of forward structure).

Games with Hall
1 - 41 x I50s, 6 goals
2 - 62 x I50s, 22 goals
3 - 54 x I50s, 13 goals
4 - 52 x I50s, 15 goals

Games without Hall
5 - 40 x I50s, 10 goals
6 - 45 x I50s, 8 goals

Yes, we miss the Big Bad One, but moving the ball quickly through the middle of the ground would certainly help out the forward structure more than enough for us win games without him.....

Run, run and more run.....:thumbsu:

Nick Davis doesn't look intrested and i don't know why :( , we all heard when he was dropped that he "learnt his leason and his actions were out of place of what is accepted in our club" fast forward to when he finally gets his opportunities to stabilize a position for him in our side when we need him he disapoints.

He looks unfit, he has lost his ability as a sharpshooter, he doesn't put in any forward pressure or contests second possesions.

At least Grundy will give a honest effort, that being said it's only round 7 so let's hope he can get some sort of form.

Probably missing him in the sense that he will usually draw the best defender of the opposition and often keeps another one or two busy as well. You know how he is always trying to mark with at least two opposition players pushing him to the ground ;)

Davis was a hoax on the weekend. If he decides to work harder he could make a difference.

Sorry for asking a question and not contributing earlier, had no time.

I think this hits the nail on the head. It's not necessarily his marking/goalkicking (etc) that we miss, but rather the attention he draws away from other forwards. O'Loughlin was made to look extremely ordinary by Scarlett, whereas he may have contributed far more if marked by his typical opponent. Further our forward structure seems to have gone to shit, particuarly against North. It looks far more solid when Hall is there.

It might be a long 7 weeks. Silly, silly man.

This could perhaps - just Chubb thinking here - also be due to that fact that Baz works hard when he isn't getting the ball. He is not afraid of coming down the field to get the ball and is usually unselfish about passing it on. You would think this would create a bit of havoc at times for the opposition's defensive midfield, all of a sudden you are contending with not only Kirk, Ablett etc, but also Baz. From memory, he actually seems to come down the wings more so maybe it doesn't affect the midfield too much. Davis seemed (from my unreliable memory) to stay pretty close to the 50. Do you have Baz's stats for I50's kicks NMW?

Just a thought.

Magic did not look his best but still managed to come into patches of his brilliance. In the last 20min the Cats just went white hot and Ablett Jnr became Superfreak. Like some I have a soft spot for Geelong after the 2005 final and although it sucked the big one watching us lose; Geelong were unbeliavable to watch.

The forward structure was always going to take time to adjust, it has lost such a vital part. Hopefully at home we can settle it down.

I think there is an element of that. But his I50s aren't that high. He averages about 2-3 per game. Davis also has 2-3 per game, but can't do so as easily when playing out of the square.

No doubt we are missing him.

It's not just he presents a target but he works so hard for the ball and draws one or even two players. Micky O struggled against Geelong badly and was battling against North but he battled his way into the game.

We must remember we are also missing Grundy as a replacement and Nick Davis did nothing against the Roos.

But to quote the obvious when you lose an impact player like Hall you are going to suffer for it.

Without Hall, our forwards are getting monstered by the bigger defenders. ROK and Micky O are really only flankers and when Hall isn't there we don't have that option of kicking to a big forward as a get out of jail card.
Our delivery needs to be pinpoint going in without Hall, becuase we are always kicking to undersized forwards.
We are also missing Hall more this year because he is back in form. Last year it didn't seem to matter when they rested him as he wasn't contributing a lot when he was there.
