Almeida didn't really have a plan other than to score takedowns and hug Volkov in an unthreatening manner. A decision like that may make him focus on actually working submissions or ground and pound.

I know they won't but I wish they scored more fights like that, guys who get take downs then just stall out to stop a fight happening should be punished. If you get a takedown you need to work it and try to work towards damage or a stoppage

3 minutes into round 1 lol. Tom hadn't fought in ages. Pretty safe bet he would have improved as it went on.

Unintentional or not, my sympathy will never be with the eye poker. Gane ruined it for everyone. That was a really bad one too.

He was edging the round for sure but it was (surprisingly) shaping up as a competitive fight, it wasn't that Aspinall was being dominated.

It's a shame as we may have had our first great HW title fight in years, if Gane could keep his fingers out of Aspinall's two eye sockets.

Nothing like a groin shot either, those are generally attempts at inner thigh or teeps to the belt line that just miss. Fingers out isn't allowed, unless your trying to get a neck tie or a clinch there's no reason to reach forward with fingers out

Yeah it's funny because a lack of judgement/technical mistake that sees your head knocked off is a clear loss. But one that illegally disables your opponent to the point where they can't continue is seen as "ambiguous".

Dana doesn't like people having a loss on their record due to that though, he's made his stance clear since Jones had those illegal 12-6 elbows.

It seemed to be a pretty clear case of deflecting an attack/keeping distance, like Shields against GSP. There's no way he was trying to attempt a clinch.

I think dominated is way off, I reckon he probably was losing the round but based off a couple clean jabs, one good body shot or punch and it could have swung the round it wasnt dominant
