We are having some of the worst decisions made against us it is unbeleivable. I'm at the stage where it feels like a conspiracy. Im gonig to go home and make a list of ridiculous frees against us, and blatant frees not paid for us.

Lance whitnals OOB against freo was horific.
Lappin not facing the ball (never seen this paid since)
some one (carrazzo, murph or simpson) was caught with the ball as soon as it went to him (again against freo) have never seen this repeated.
50 meter penalties for touching a player after the mark (not paid at all against the hawks despite repeated grabs).

Its like the umpires view us as hopeless and dont know the rules and are there to "educate" us.

Ridiculous.

The worst thing about it is always appears to be in the first half, first quater. And then its catch up from there.

the 3 games we've lost this year have been because we weren't good enough

nothing to do with umpiring whatsoever

in all 3 matches the ump played apart, but in the hawks game they were worth 4 goal, the umps screwed us good.

mate our skills are to blame...pretty poor...guys like scotland, houla, sporn... just turn it over by foot too easy...thats what's killing me

I Must admit, I've been to every game in Melbourne this year and the umpiring has been near suicidle.

Soft decisions that cost us goals and decisions that should give us goals that don't get paid.

However our skills etc. is the one to blame.

fellas, no doubt about it, its up to us to win the games. never an excuse to blame the blokes umpiring the game. Just think we've been givin the rough end of the stick on a fair few. The call on Lappin for facing away from the ball giving freo a goal was bollocks....there are plenty of these sort of instances,....drving me mental.

No excuses.

Another question what was fisher doing in the back line in the last quater against the hawks. We had no-one to go to whatsoever and theres Fish moping up for us. Was it because lance had gone forward ? If not the WTF ?

poor starts to games, goalkicking and poor decision making by players is killing us.

the standard of umpiring is extreemly poor, but it's not just us who are receiving poor decisons.

Yeah spot on BIBI (your not a southby are you) I think the afl has out done themselves with the rule book. Its the only genuine form of authority they have on the game and hence abuse it.

Grow up. As much as it might feel like it, there is not some ridiculous conspiracy amongst the umpires to penalise Carlton. Our team sucks but trying to deflect attention rather than focus on our own problems will mean it will be even longer before we start to improve. Fact is, umpires make mistakes; in most cases a lot fewer mistakes than our players are making. There were maybe 6 poor decisions on Friday night against Hawthorn - how many players can say they only made 2 errors for the night? You note that its mostly in the first quarter that the decisions go against us - well noted. Our first quarters have been terrible. If you don't have possession of the ball, and are being beaten to the ball in every contest, you are going to get free kicks paid against you; which hurts, because its just when your looking for an easy way out of the fact your team is getting smashed.

The umpires are really starting to frustrate me. The umpiring is at a pathetic new low.

In the game against Freo there were some dodgy decisions payed early and allowed them to get off to a great start. Against Sydney the umpiring was just pathetic. On WLF they showed four decisions that when against Carlton, and Humphrey-Smith (TOOL) agreed that they were all wrong. That was only the tip of the iceberg in that game though. They didn't show the 5m kick that was paid a mark right beside the man on the mark of the kicker and which resulted in a goal. The umpires also blocked Whitnall from getting to Hall twice when he played on after taking a mark and goaling.

Before sitting down to watch the Hawthorn game I was whingeing to my mates about how bad the umpires have been to us and sure enough, they throw up the same old sh1t again.

The umpires have definetely had a bearing on the results of the games so far. Yeah we've made our own mistakes and played badly but at least it's our own fault and destiny is our own hands. But when the umpires start making the wrong decisions it's taken away from us.

I've never been one to blame umpires, and while I won't say they've cost us games, we've had some horrible decisions paid against us, or not paid for us.

It's not that we haven't had a reasonable number of free kicks, it's just that we seem to have had extremely crucial decisions go the wrong way for us in every match this year.

Exactly, we let Fremantle jump us and we never really got back into the game. Sydney, jumped us as well, and we played catch up footy most of the night and Hawthorn were just to good, and very bad kicking hurt us as well.

Every team cops bad decisions. You just have to get on with life and start worrying about things that you can control.

Watching NRL are you ?

Anyone who thinks the umpires didn't effect this game, at the very least, watch the last five minutes of the 1st quarter. Two incidents;

1. DeLuca's mark @ CHB called play on.
2. Russell's tackle @ half-forward called play on after the man took him on.

and I'll bet if you watch the match again, there'll be freees that the Hawks should've got when the umpires missed them as well.

players win and lose the game mate, not the umpires, and this seasons umpiring has been more then acceptable so far.

Didn't really notice the umps doing a particularly bad job.... unlike a few of our players.

Imagine barracking for St Kilda after they were absolutely crucified against Port on Monday night. Jeez I felt sorry for them. Every single 50/50 decision went Ports way. That's home town bias for you.

Mate, I have watched the match again, twice in fact.:o
The umpires killed us compare to the opposition. Not the first time either.

I'm not saying we would have won with a better run from these maggots, we played :D:D:D:D and deserved the result, but that doesn't hide the fact they are biased against particular teams on the day.

get to the ball before your opponent does
move the ball quickly so you give your teammate at least a 50/50 chance at the next contest
kick straight when kicking for goal

and the umpires are a non issue.
