Umpires we have a problem

here is the free kick diff from 2011-2015:


what ever way you look at this we have a massive problem here which makes it harder for us to win games. we either:
1) give away free kicks far too easily and do not draw our own well enough, OR
2) we have an issue somewhere that has made us more susceptible to poor umpiring.

now either way you look at this, the club needs to be working on it. if we are at fault here and are just giving away free kicks too easily/not drawing them well enough, then its a coaching issue that needs to be addressed ASAP. its in-forgivable its been allowed to go on for this long.

if its umpiring bias then what are we doing to improving the relationship, working towards a more even playing field.

doing nothing isnt an acceptable response IMO the problem is staring us in the face and needs to be corrected

Here's a few more theories/reasons:

1) We have less players who actively cheat
2) No distinct homeground advantage
3) Careless tackles
4) Bad luck/50:50's not going our way (like today)
5) Inexperience, during our rebuilding phase we're putting a lot of games into young fellows who are still building AFL bodies and are still adjusting to the pace of AFL

I've been thinking for years that we need to get someone with an umpiring background down to the club on a regular basis to educate the boys

Maybe that's got something to do with the apparent focus on an uncontested game plan - we're less likely to 'give away' frees like Ziebell diving head-first into someone's legs to draw a free kick if we're in contested situations less often?

Yep.. that was a SHOCKER.. Gresham did exactly what he is supposed to and held his ground and stayed on his feet... Ziebel dived head first at his legs.. Free to Ziebell????????

I agree with #1. There are a number of players known to drop their knees when tackled. None are ours.
#2 The home ground isn't an issue usually but when in Perth it is known that the one-sided crowd noise definitely influences the umpire's decision.
#3 we can improve our own tackling.

Hickey gets jumped into from the side by McDonald & completely taken out of the marking contest which allowed an easy mark to McDonald's teammate.... Wrong call, that's a shepherd & Hickeys free kick for either a block, shepherd or unrealistic marking attempt against McDonald

Goldstein's ruck free against Hickey..... What shits me is that you just ****ing knew that it was going to be called! As soon as Hickey stepped across Goldy, the umpire just wanted to pay it. What they should have paid was the high tackle on Savage by Norf that turned into the ball up where Goldy got the free kick. Ziebell did it all game & got them all game. Why does Sav not get his paid? There's no ****ing way that not 1 of the 3 umpires saw Sav have his neck wrenched.

So angry & frustrated. Just keeps happening to us too often.

No one mentions last game of 2015 . WE played Westcoast over their ,and got beaten by 95
. But the stats show we received only 6 free kicks to eagles 23
our last free kick was at the 10 min mark of the second quarter .for over 3/4 quaters nothing)
some of the other stats were
we laid 81 tackles to theirs 73
lost contested possession 105 to 156
clearances ours 33 theirs 39
so our guys were up and at it ,but no reward
this is the 3 game in the last 8 the umps have shafted us .
time for the club to stand up ( Eddie everywhere certainly would be pushing the pies discontent ,if it happened to them)

The one passage of play on the wing that saw Ziebell crash into one of our blokes late after he marked it, followed up by Bruce's mark in front of Thompson where Thompson punches the back of Bruce's head really late as his 'attempted spoil'.... Both of these should have been 50m penalties
