Is it just my one-eyedness or was the umpiring today really inconsistent and terrible. I was at the game so I didn't always have the closest view to things, but I felt that there was no consistency today, and for the first 1 quarter and a half this greatly favoured North. Was really unimpressed.

Re: Upmiring today?

It wasn't just you. I don't know how many times I nearly lost it with the maggots today. Some of the soft as butter b/s push in the back and HTB decisions that went against us left me bewildered.

I'm not surprised Hille and Spike both exploded with rage at the umpires at different times in the match.

Someone has got to tell them to put away the whistle three quarters of the time. It's just insane some of the rubbish they pick out. We can only hope the decision making improves during the season, but I won't be holding my breath.

Hugely favoured North in the 1st half! Alot of decisions were totally confusing.

Re: Upmiring today?

It was woeful, especially in the first quarter. And that's not something I say every game.

Hopefully the umps were just rusty and will sharpen up for the rest of the year.

Re: Upmiring today?

how on earth they could pay one against slattery in the goal square plus 50m penalty for kicking goal immediately and not long later let n.thompson clearly push his opponent in the back and get away with it infuriated me.

interestingly the kangas were backed into 1.65 favs. suffer in your jocks umpires you tried your best but you lost your money!

That first quarter was some of the most bias umpiring you will see.
Have to agree there , that was some of the worst umpiring I have seen in the first quarter. Carnt believe that they were that bad. lucky the bombers came out with the win or there would have been everything hitting the fan. Well done boys for fighting back.

Apparently MMM had the umpires miked up and with the McVeigh 50 after he got pinged for holding the ball when he had no prior opportunity to get rid of it..

All McVeigh said was "How was i meant to get rid of it?" and the umpire said 50 for asking too aggressively...

That pretty much sums them up...

Don't get me started with these white ****en maggotts they have been terrible in every match i have watched of us so far this year.

That free kick against McVeigh and 50 summed it all up.

As for that in the back rule don't get me going with that as i will blow a valve. Worse rule ever invented.

Some VERY VERY ordinary calls in the first half. I was fuming at the frees they were paying to the roos, while we were getting nothing!

The holding the ball against spike was just utter bullshit

Personally, I feel they were just too whistle happy.

I felt a lot of their decisions did have a basis for a decision, but the infringement was so minor that it didn't warrant a free kick.

A couple of inconsistencies as well, but given we won the game, I can live with them.

The way I saw it was we came out at the start of the game, just a little too eager.

There were definitely a few that were warranted, i.e Nash pushing Thomas in the back which allowed him to go back and kick the opener, but some of them were utterly ridiculous , i.e Brent Harvey's free kick, against JJ for too high!

I wasn't too worried at quarter time, we hadn't done much wrong, and the decisions even up........or so I hoped.

Start quarter 2 and Thommo pushed Michael in the back so hard it wasn't funny. By this time I was really started to get annoyed.

The thing that got me most was our great repeated tackling efforts which resulted in the Roos dropping the football, were going unrewarded!

But they did even up.

Lloyd's free late in the quarter against Gibson for an apparent push in the back (on the 50m line) was definitely not there.

Then into the 3rd quarter Lloyd pushed Gibson out clearly and anyone could see that was a free to Gibson! (Even Schwarz said "they've been making bad decisions all day, they wouldn't want to start calling them right now")

I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop.

Their were poor decisions all day against both sides.

Oh and that 50m penatly against Slattery after he crumbed the ball and snapped the goal...........fcuk you umpire, seriously!

I didn't think it was that bad, Most of the free-kicks in the first quarter were there, The only bad ones were the holding the balls calls which seemed to be a differnet rule for us

PS The free-kick against McVeigh was there, he was getting tackled, he put the ball on the ground before trying to hit it away. The 50 wasn't though...

IMO there were a lot of justified in the back calls and just wild plays by the bombers in the first half, but there was also a lack of consistency when it came to those same calls going the way of the roo's. Prime example: matty lloyds unpaid mark early then then thompson being paid a free kick (and goal) for the same, if not worse, thing. the white maggots seemed to be a little more relaxed after half time... but geez i was angry and smashing down beers like water in that first quater! haha

Good sensible post.

I think the commentators summed it up, the umps didnt get a free kick call correct inside the forward 50 arcs until the last quarter when it was all over...have to agree...
But i must say, the majority of the free kicks we got were there, however there were a lot of free kicks that you should have got against us that werent paid...however, its all irrelevent now?

Karma?

:)

Slattery kicking the goal, after being penilised for hands in the back. Hardly touched him.

Then Thompson pushed Ryder with two hands in the back, took the mark and goaled.

Holding the ball today went against us as well...

The majority of frees were there, but the umpires missed alot of obvious Ess ones.

Consistency.
