I'm not going to come out on one person's side or another here, but what I do have to say is this: all of you, pretty much, are saying it'll do the player good or bad if he gets dropped to the seconds, and that's great. But what about the team?
A football team consists of about 20 players taking to the ground in a particular game. If 1 or 2 of those players aren't performing, and they really should be, you have to use some sort of tactic (benching them, dropping them, sitting down and talking to them) to get them to perform. But whatever ND does, he has to do it quickly, otherwise the team will suffer.
Another point: look at it from the point of view of a player who has just acheived match fitness after playing in the two's. He's ready, he's fit, he's fired up, yet he has been told he has to wait another week because some under-acheiving champion hasn't quite got his act together yet, but "this could be his (the champion) week". How is the player in the two's going to feel about that? He could get apathetic, play a lousy game, and stuff up his chances to play the following week.
Something has to be done, and it has to be done soon.
