Under the radar...

I seriously reckon our youngsters are flying under the radar of many in the AFL.
The thread on the main board regarding "Your teams top 10 youngsters" has plenty of valid discussion and certainly the Hawks, Roos & Pies have long lists of very good young prospects.
Not much input from Tigers posters and our kids are not rated by other supporters.
Seeing the couple of lists of Tiger Cubs posted, almost all of the kids have played most of the games this year and in some cases, the past year or two!
Could it be that everyone is so used to seeing us on the bottom this year, copping a few hidings that they have not seen the development of our young core group?

You only 'fly under the radar' when you actually catch someone off guard.
To catch someone off guard in the AFL you have do something.
And do something in the AFL you have to win games.

If our team had actually won more games and our youngsters were part of it,
then they would have caught everyone off guard.

Our youngster are not 'flying under the radar'.
2 wins isn't an achievement.

Actually, the flying under the radar part is what happens BEFORE you catch someone off guard. Once you've launched the surprise attack, you're no longer under the radar.

So that description fits just fine.

This is probably what I was getting at.
Clearly the results on the field have been very ordinary but in the meantime, we have been getting some serious game time into our 18 - 21 year old players & in many cases in key roles...
If we were sitting where we are after 19 rounds having played a much older group of players, then we really would have little hope for the future.

The description is wrong....
'Flying Under the Radar' means you've beaten the enemies system 'by flying under it' to enable you to attack.
You don't 'fly under the radar' to sightsee!

We've beaten 2 sides (whoopee!)...no great achievement.
And unlike an attack, we've achieved nothing

'Flying under the radar' is a means to an end.
We've surprised no one.

P.S...'Flying Under The Radar' IS catching someone off guard....You've beaten their defences.....duh

Correct, we have not surprised anyone... yet.
The point is that we may be getting ignored as also rans this year and it is our development that might not be getting noticed.
And that does not bother me one bit. :thumbsu:

Pedantic I know, but have to go with the Ranger. You fly under the radar to get to the strike zone. Deliberate's quite right that we haven't got to the strike zone yet as we aren't exactly dropping any bombs.

When we win a few games people will start to actually see us and then assess us properly, maybe favourably, maybe not, but only then will we be "on the radar".

What a waste of time. I apologise.

Thats correct. So in fact we are flying under the radar because we havent dropped any bombs yet. The original poster was correct.:D

yeah, but you can still beat defences with those who are flying under the radar, when those who are flying under the radar are given the order to attack too .....duh.
I mean, you can attack knowing you will most likely lose, which in my book, dont know about yours, is pretty stupid. But when you know you are ready to attack and get the results you really want, me thinks its a bit more of a surprise, dont you?
Or dont you understand what has happened with the dawks this year? All of a sudden players who were nobodys have grown another leg overnight and the comp hasnt doen its home work, because they were flying under the radar, while the Danny Jacob's etc of this world were showing what the dawks had to offer. ;)

How can a side be flying under the radar when we're not even on the bloody radar. Is it that surprising that no opposition fans really rate us as a threat and although you will hear opposition players and coaches say they have to be careful in games against us the truth is no-one takes us as a serious threat at all.

Case in point is this weekends game against the WCE, they will see us coming over with a team full of kids playing against a near full strength line up and they will do just enough to get the win and a bit of % without really hitting top gear. Worsfold will make sure they get the jump early and hold us at arms distance for the match and wait for the inevitable fall away in intensity, they will then just cruise around get some time into their younger players and all the while have Judd sitting back and resting his injured groin. Meanwhile our kids will be going flat chat trying to just keep up.

That's what I was trying to say ... I think. We've done some good work here guys, taken a decent thread and turned into a schemozzle.

You're insane!! In fact, you're still flying under the radar cause no one has dropped a bomb on your flying saucer!!

I'm not going to carry on any further after this because some of you don't understand the phrase and even I'm starting to split hairs.

Get this straight...
Nobody at the RFC is 'flying under the freakin radar'.
In other words nobody has snuck under the guard of ANY opposing side.

If anything, and barely, some clubs and pundits are pleasantly surprised by Foley's progression. Though he didn't burst on the scene and hurt sides by helping us suddenly win. And he's the other one racking up the stats.
His progression was visible and steady. Even Foley has NOT snuck under anybody's guard.

This is a stupid thread that tried to turn our youth into some mythical sudden bolt from the heavens.
People use 'flying under the radar' as a final overview after something has happened. Forget bombs and other crap.
It just hasn't and isn't happening at Richmond.
Keep clutching at straws, cause it hasn't happened here.
Roachy8 thinks they are, only cause he hasn't had his eyes open.
Shees....

Good Lord Sir!
This really has taken a strange turn with discussions regarding on or under radar's, bombs and now flying saucers!
Thanks for your opinion Deliberate however the topic is the potential of our youth and whether other teams/supporters are missing and therefore not rating our youngsters development. (albeit in the background)
I believe they are... which is fine.

when you fly under the radar it means people are not noticing what is happening which eventually leads to alot of teams not being ready for us when we are finally ready for them

i'd say we're very much on the radar......can one of you learned footy followers remind me of the last time a team running stone motherless last received any respect from the opposition (or their fans).

then it again that kind of reminds me of a hawthorn side from not long ago;)
