The main over rated ones I've picked up on from Essendon are Williams, Slattery and Welsh while Howlett, Jetta and McVeigh are under rated (Crameri and Hardingham are too but I can see why).

The real issue though is that midfielders are under rated as soon as you move them to another midfield position. I often want to swap Welsh and Watson because Watson's opponent is the player I'd like to tag but according to the game Watson can't play in the Centre (which is where he gets named most games).

I'm hoping that their next system lets you line midfielders up where ever you want on the midfield but you can choose options like Inside Midfielder, Outside Midfielder and Tagger which effects their stats.

Yeah, realistically centre, rover and ruck rover should be treated as three of the same position, which is basically in-the-guts midfielder.

IIRC moving a player into a different position won't change their stats, only their overall level, as the overall level reflects the players effectiveness in that position. You could put a bulky FF in the midfield if you want, and the game will show his overall to be incredibly low, but his stats shouldn't change. Therefore he'll still perform as well as he did at FF, only his overall is reflecting that his key stats (marking, goal kicking, strength, etc) are negligible when put into a midfield role.

Essentially, moving someone like Jobe Watson from RR/ROV to CTR shouldn't change a thing. He'll still kick, mark & tackle the same as he did before, only the game will be suggesting that he doesn't have the right skillset to play CTR (which I assume requires a more defensively minded skillset). But that's entirely up to how you use him really.

Though I do agree that it is indeed a flawed system that gives a lot of false information. I think that's reflected well when you have a guy like Nick Maxwell (mentioned on the first page) who has a high overall when playing at CHB, but loses a significant chunk of that when moved to HBF or BP. Or when you have a highly rated ruckman and move him into the FP only for his overall to be cut in half. I mean, I get it. A FP role is normally suited to a smaller player with great burst speed and agility, something most ruckman do not have. But that doesn't mean a ruckman can't play in the FP. The same goes with the Maxwell situation. He has great strength and marking/spoiling but little agility & speed, something that the HBF position considers, therefore his overall is lowered to compensate. But it doesn't mean you need agility & speed to play HBF. But obviously the game is suggesting that.

The system is a bit overthought IMO. The change in a players overall should just depend on whether they're playing in defense, midfield, forward or ruck, rather than each individual position.

Hopping Mad said it well. I pay very little attention to player rankings aside from their max ranking. I play Stefan Martin in the back pocket because he has decent speed, marking and spoiling attributes and I like to use him as a backup ruckman. I don't care how poor a kick he is because I just go the other way from kickins.

The reason it exists though, AND the reason it is flawed, is that it affects the auto-interchange system. You'll never see a ruckman rotated into the forward pocket because of this flaw; you're more likely to see them put onto a wing or in the midfield. You get more subtle but still annoying and unrealistic interchange problems between midfielders.

Really, a new auto-interchange system should be introduced. Players should have a default set of positions that they rotate between, perhaps a list of primary and a list of secondary. This can be temporarily edited in the Team Management screen, and permanently edited in the player creator. So you could assign somebody like Kieran Jack primary positions of Rover, Ruck Rover and Centre. Secondary positions could be Wing, HFF, FP.

The stats for players dont bother me too much, like someone said if your good you can kick goals or play anyone where there ranking drops and still play well.
I played bellchambers in the forward pocket, he was ranked like 38 or something and i kicked 5goals with him! lol
But i would like them to change crameri's position from HBF to HFF

Sandilands. Atleast downgrade his rucking online. It makes winning the ball first harder for every other team online and I've never met so many freo 'fans' in my life
It's so crap, seeing everyone play as my fav team just to gain a few xtra hitouts. Why don't they just transfer him to their team?
