Just cut current format to fit the feminine physique, blimey. I never understood why the women's cut retail jumpers have sleeves on them either.

The current format fits fine. PS the above is one of my favourite footy photos of the last few years.

I suggest the real motive for the AFL to push sleeved jumpers is that it creates 2 extra locations for sponsors to be applied.
More $$$ for them, which may be required to help get the Women's league off the ground, but I would personally prefer a standard jumper, especially given they will be playing in Feb/March.

In the women's match, West Coast were wearing retail cut guernseys (no side panel, more generous fit), but had sublimated numbers, watermarks and had a GPS pocket sewn in. Kind of a hybrid retail/player issue.

They had to adjust the fit because the players didn't want their bras showing.

A slimmer fit ala PI would have been more appropriate, no? The jumpers look like sacks at worst.

Man.. how good do those wings look starting from the top of the jumper! Not impeded by shoulder panels, they're big and beautiful

If the issue is whether the manufacturer will be set by the league or not, which, if they're looking into it, it more than likely will be, then the current manufacturers probably just don't give a toss, it's not going to be their issue.
They did the job, and won't be needed again after this year.

Seem to be smaller around the arms and fitted a lot better than the best and less ones freo was wearing.

So I think you are correct, designed to fit woman better.

Keep the traditional sleeveless footy jumper just shape it for women or better yet custom fit for the individual player. In general girls don't have an issue showing their upper arms in netball, other sports or when wearing sports bras in the gym.

I don't think they've been redesigned, I think they've just used the retail cut as a cost saving measure.
Retail doesn't have GPS pockets though?

My RL referees association has the most female refs as far as I know and I was having a chat with one of them the other week about how they find being part of a male dominated field. One of the biggest complaints was the shorts... "I wish our shorts didn't make us look like we have things we don't actually have"

They're not off the rack retails, they've used the retail cut but added numbers, watermarks and GPS pocket. The elastane stretchy fabric and side panels on player issues would be where the cost goes up. Also on the retail cut they don't need to line up the yellow bit on the side panel with the front and back panels.

Surely every apparel co makes generic women's shorts that could be easily substituted in? It surprises me that this is such an issue.

Sponsorship agreements + bulk pricing probably don't help. That said the girl I did lines with today was wearing generic shorts I'm pretty sure.

Phrasing!!!

They weren't white shorts were they?
