Hi everyone

I am a University of Sydney student doing some research on player movement in AFL, and whether any changes need to be made to the current system. I was wondering if you guys would happen to know any Sydney Swans players or coaches who would be willing to talk about this, as these sources of information are invaluable.

Cheers

i dont have anything on player movement but i have some articles by sports economists on competitive balance in the AFL. They talk about the impact of the trade and salary cap in the AFL compared to other competitive balance devices such as metro zoning.

Best person to ask would be Ryan O'Keefe. Can only suggest you go to the club and seek an interview. It shouldn't be too difficult if your bona fides stack up.

Good luck.

That would be great if I could have a chat with Ryan. However, I've emailed the club but I haven't received any replies. I also tried calling them but I was moved from department to department. If only I lived in Melbourne lol.

Any chance you could email them to me? Thanks :)

It's a shame you didn't go with Player Movement in the NRL, you could've done your entire assignment on Nate Myles. Or added Julian O'Neill for variety.

Wonder if Nate would be up for an interview?

Contact Paul Roos after the end of the trading period, ask him for statistics (assuming that's what you do, see you round in carslaw).
You may even pay him a bribe(or beer) to fit your arguments :D.

Yeah mate just pm me your email address and ill send them through

Not doing an assignment on this (as yet, might chose to do one next year depending on courses) but I would absolutely love a copy of the articles, can I PM you my email as well?

Thanks for all your help. I just realised even if the club(s) let me speak to their players, chances are they are probably on holidays.

And my assignment is more on the legal side of player movement, so looking at the draft and the salary cap in AFL. I wasn't going to concentrate on the economics side of it, however, now that some of you have mentioned it, I'm beginning to form ideas of how I can weave it in my essay.

this sounds like a fun-ish assignment. I wish I could do something AFL related for a uni assignment haha

good luck with it!

Unlikely that players will know that side of things.

Look at AFLPA (Players Association) website

Over the years I have seen enormous amount of "heavy duty" .pdf documents posted on BF. (However I can't find them due to shit search engine on this site)

A very respectful polite PM to these posters might help give you exactly what you want, as they have posted the majority of them
