Thats why its called Basic strategy. It is the method that provide provides the best chance of not losing too much. The maths shows that you still lose, but not as much if you didn't use the strategy. If you want to win, you need to count cards and splitting 10's is most certainly advantageous dependant upon where the count is. Of course, this doesn't change the fact that almost everyone splitting 10's at the casino on a Saturday night have nfi what they're doing.
