seems strange he would ask about the air conditioner, while sitting in the car, get the answer "i never use it" and then not turn it on... pretty dumb of him really.

buyer beware with cars and houses... and pretty much any private sale i think.

I did this to a car dealership one time. Air con hadnt worked for a few years, a rock went through the condensor and all the gas leaked out, but one day coming home oil leaked out of the engine everywhere. I made it home and decided rather than get the engine fixed I'll buy a new car. Caught the bus down to the dealership the next day said I'll take that one and 2 blokes drove me back to my place to check out my car. Put a bit of oil in to start it up and they were slyly thinking they had a nice trade in, car was only 5 years old. Luckily for me they never went over the rest of it close enough to notice the air con didnt work and agreed to a price I wasnt expecting to get. Next day I go to the dealership to pick up my new car as they took my old one the day before and they had discovered what I already knew. Was a frosty handing over of the keys. :D

I'd like to say that BB but I'm concerned I've been unintentionally misleading with the website ad. Though he asked me on test drive and I gave an honest answer.

It's his fault he didn't get the car properly checked out pre-purchase.

Other thing is its still in my name as he didn't have the required id yet to satisfy rta. And that's exactly where I'm going tomorrow for a statement of disposure( I hope)

Firstly its not going to cost $1000. If you hadn't used it, it could simply be out of gas ($40) or if there is a problem with the coils it could be $350. It would be strange that you would have to replace the whole air con unit. He bought the car its not your problem what happens after he has driven it out of your driveway. I suggest you fix the paperwork up immediately and tell him bad luck, and if he continues to harass you go and break his legs.

Buyer beware. The onus is on him to get the car checked out.
Agreed, 'caveat emptor' would apply in this case unless you mislead him both in the ad & when questioned about it. And I think you said that it stated in the ad that it has air con as a feature. Well it does have it, it just doesn't work

i've been told that when a dealership goes over a car, you have absolutely no duty in reporting what is wrong with the car that you indend on trading in. that is their mechanics job to do

but kudos for you, alway nice to **** over a car yard :thumbsu:
