I opened ports which did the trick me. Not as hard as you might think, once you know what you're looking for.

Easy for you to say.
Anyone care to explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old. F**ked if I can work it out. Also, my modem isnt listed in the list of one of the links.
I'm getting a huge d/l speed of 12k/b
When I had the 1.7 version, I didnt have a problem.
Any help on port forwarding would be much appreciated.:o

In case you didn't know, opening up ports can leave your computer vunerable to attacks.

I opened up ports for utorrent not long ago and my computer got hacked forcing me to format the hard drive.

IS the fast speed really worth it?

well i'm not computer savvy, but i guess i opened up the wrong one, who knows?

I guess it might be worth pointing out which ones not to open to the OP.

choose which ports you want to use in utorrent eg 4600-4700. then when you are port fowarding you open those ports only

I agree with this, had the same issue myself about a year back now, opened up port 54000 or something like that, took me a while to get it up and running, the speed increase was good at the time, but it didn't take too long for me to be completely hacked by some linux machine.

Got a bit paranoid and re formatted as i had know i had some virus problems a while back and put it down to that, but not so long after re format, the hacker came back again, wasnt until i completely closed off that port again that i rid myself of that problem.

Personally I use utorrent 1.7.7 and I have applied a few settings changes and tweaks here and there in order to improve performance but the only setting change in regards to router/modem i have undertaken is to allow incoming ping.

Since then and with those settings I get the full possible speed I can get at any time with the green light on utorrent and no hackers. Be careful with regards to opening/forwarding ports.

Internet is advertised in bits. 1500 kilobits per second in your case. In uTorrent (and any browser etc.) it shows up in kilobytes per second.

There are 8 kilobits in a second, therefore;
150 kilobytes per second = 1200 kilobits per second, as explained by poster above.

Also don't forget it is what people are willing to give up too.

A lot of people limit the upload speed to 10 or so which means it will come even more slowly to you.

Just to let you know, where he says here -

Code:
[LIST=1]
[*][B]Enable DHT Network[/B]: CHECKEDThis is recommended to be checked to improve speeds. More people will be available for sharing if this is checked.
[*][B]Enable DHT for new torrents[/B]: CHECKED
[*][B]Enable Peer Exchange[/B]: CHECKED
[*][B]Enable scrapping[/B]: CHECKED
[/LIST]

If you are part of a private tracker, make sure that these aren't checked when seeding. They allow people who aren't registered on the tracker to download from you without worrying about a ratio, and can take a decent hit of your bandwith and provide false stats to the site and the tracker associated with the site.
